Babies: 3 - 6 Months

baptism question?

So, we have scheduled Ben's baptism.  He will be wearing a gown that is about 90 years old, that was worn by my grandfather and then by me, 32 years ago.

So, this maybe a dumb question, but... what do i do for shoes/socks?  It seems kind of strange to have baby shoes on, and socks alone seems too informal.. but its too cold here now to go barefoot.

Re: baptism question?

  • We just did white socks. DS was baptised in an old family gown as well and it is so long it covered his feet anyway so whatever was on his feet didn't show. I personally think shoes would be a waste and unecessary.

  • I think some nice socks would be fine.
  • You could have him wear socks to church and take them off for the baptism. FWIW, J. was baptized in a white onesie. In our church, their baptismal gown is presented to them during the baptism. You put in on the child immediately after the baptism.

  • First off congrats on the upcoming baptism.  I would just go with socks if it is too cold to go barefoot.  We baptized our DS the first week of October and he went barefoot.  Much cuter than stuffing his feet in shoes.

  • Thanks for the suggestions and well wishes everyone.  Socks make good sense.  :)  I wish I had time to knit up some cute little booties, but I dont know how to knit anything that isnt a rectangle.  Smile
  • I'd just do white socks.

DD is getting baptised next month in the gown my sister, me and both my nieces wore. I'll probably just put white ruffle socks on her.
