My boys go to bed no problem, but end up in our bed

At some point during the night. Sometimes both, but at least one of them will wake and climb into our bed. Sometimes we are aware of them as soon as they climb in, but other times not. It doesn't really bother me, but I am a bit worried that they might become disorientated and fall. We live in a small ranch, so the bedrooms are next to each other. Anyone else experience this? Normal? I have no idea how I might go about breaking them of this habit, but figure sooner or later they won't want to climb in our bed.

  • We went through this too and what worked for us is putting their sleeping bags on the floor of our room. If they want to in the night they are allowed to come downstairs and get in their sleeping bags. They are satisfied and I'm happy bc they are not in my bed and not waking me up.
  • DS comes in sometimes.  We like it.  I have yet to evict my DD so she's f/t with us still but soon she'll be out and I'm expecting the same from her.

Ds is 4 and he used to come in all the time.  Now, not so much.  Kind of sad when you realize it's already almost over with!

We have a nightlight in the hall so he doesn't get confused.

  • Dd sneaks into our bed most nights (I'd say 5-6 nights/week.) Ds used to end up in our bed every single night but it's gotten less frequent as he's gotten older- now I'd estimate it's just once or twice a week on average.

Typically speaking we don't even wake up when they come in- we just wake up in the wee morning hours to little bodies strewn all across the bed. It doesn't really bother me at all and I actually kind of like it. I figure they won't be doing it forever and there will eventually come a time when they wouldn't be caught dead snuggling with their mom or dad, LOL.

ETA: We also live in a small ranch and all three bedroom doors are within 2-3 steps. I don't really worry about them getting confused/disoriented, but they both usually have a nightlight on in their room anyhow. We also usually leave the bathroom light on for them (the bathroom is also just a couple steps away.)
