First, DH and I have decided not to do CD because we don't think it will work for us. I think it's great that people do it and I wish we could.
I have heard it suggested that you start buying diapers before LO arrives, that way you can spread out the cost since you're going to need a lot. I was just wondering if any of you had started doing this or if not, if you plan to and when you're going to start. I just thought of this the other day but don't want to be the crazy lady hoarding diapers at 13w lol.
I'm thinking I should wait until atleast 20w. I'm just a sucker for deals and every time I see them on sale or a coupon I think to myself "Oh, should I go get some?!"
Re: Buying Diapers (Not CD)
Oh good point, I never thought of that. Thanks!
Ditto. We were going to use Huggies, but they gave DS a horrid diaper rash. We've had nothing but good luck with Pampers though. Each baby is different and you never know what might work/might not work.
we started buying them then my sister said she was going to gift us the first year of diapers, so that's a good break. but anyway, it's a good idea and it's not.
some kids leak out of huggies and can only wear luvs. some parents hate luvs and will only use pampers. if you buy one brand and hate them, you're stuck with it. it's really up to you.
we've recently started using target brand. way more inexpensive. i do find the filling bunches more but we haven't had any leaks.
edit: you could just put $20 a week so you'll have that diaper money saved when you need it.

This.
Another alternative would be to get a gift card from Walmart, Target, or wherever you shop the most. Each pay check (or each time you go to that store) put the cost of the average price of diapers, or 20 bucks on there. THEN once LO is here you have a 'diaper fund'. That is what my cousin and her husband are doing. When she told me I was like "wow...what a good idea!"
Ditto this. My girls were soooo different when it came to diapers. DD#1 ended up being allergic to pampers, and DD#2 couldn't wear huggies. IF you want to do something to put money aside, you can get yourself gift cards to Target, Walmart or where ever.
FWIW, the best diapers for the money that we have found have been the Target brand diapers. Also, If you have a BRU rewards card, and you buy 9 of the large boxes (of the same brand), you get the 10th free.
I just bought my first pack of diapers for the new little one today. I plan on slowly stocking up when there are great deals and coupons available. That is the same thing I still do with DD. Right now DD has a full case plus two huggies packs. Enough to last a while. I am hoping she will potty train sometime in the next three months so we can start just buying baby diapers.
I know people say stuff about brands, fit, etc. Thankfully with DD we never had any issues. She work either huggies or pampers depending on what was on hand/on sale. I wouldn't go crazy buying newborn size since some babies outgrow them really quickly.
We tried stocking up but ended up hating the brand.
For dd we use Target Brand when we dont use cloth. I like them for the fact that they dont smell like baby powder, are way cheaper, and dont have characters on them. I can't resist a pokie doted butt!
I like pp who said to just save the money and then have it ready to spend when the baby gets here. Have it saved as money instead of diapers is nice if people give you gift cards or actual diapers.
Whatever you do, buy mostly size 3! DD has been in size threes since she was maybe 4 months old and that's the size we are still wearing on her! So, almost a year and a half in the same size!!!
She is pretty slender, but I think most babies are in size three for a while.
Also, if you buy too many newborn you can always exchange them for a bigger size if the box isn't open!
Amazon always does 30% if you sign up for automatic delivery for diapers/wipes. I'm not sure of the details because we mostly use cloth, but it's a good deal and you should look into it if you plan to only use disposables.
Very similar. We live in a very old (small) house and DH thought it would be crazy for us to start buying things we have no use for. We started a baby 'fund' for just those types of things. We put a certain amount away each week and hope it helps ease the diaper $ shock when LO comes.
