Feeling nervous and unable to continue baby prep

After being so good for months in getting things ready for the baby, it's been a few weeks since I hit a wall. I can't bring myself to finish the nursery, pack the hospital bag, etc. It pretty much coincided with my starting to feel very nervous about labor. The childbirth ed class yesterday only increased the dread. Anyone else avoiding baby prep? Any suggestions for getting over it?

Re: Feeling nervous and unable to continue baby prep

  • Deal with it in small doses.

I got a lot of my stuff done early because I knew I'd get to this point as it got closer. Pretty much everything is done except the hospital bag, and I do that in spurts.

It's called avoidance and it's working so far.

  • I was totally in avoidance mode until my sister was induced on Friday.  Now I'm in panic mode cause there's so much left to do and there's no buffer--I'm next!

  • Uhm, is there anything else you can do? I mean it is inevitable...LOL that would be motivation enough for me!

  • I can empathize.  Try breaking it down to 1 baby-related task an evening.  Today my goal was to was Lily's bedding, and the good thing is that I got that done, and then decided to wash her bouncy seat cover.

If I look at ALL I have to do, I just get nervous and freeze.  Start with one small thing a day. You can do it!

  • Why not give yourself permission to be scared, nervous, and unmotivated for a while? Sometimes these feelings will clear out as soon as we acknowledge them and just let them be there for a short time. Then you can let them go and move on.  What you're feeling seems perfectly normal to me.

I think you ladies have the right idea. If I give myself the ok to just do one little thing a day, at least something is getting done! And perhaps it'll lead to getting a few other things done too... I actually just got my vinyl quote in the mail so I'll put  that up for today.
