Announcing the news on FB before telling boss

God idea or bad?? Some background info: there is no way for him to found out through facebook. He is not one of my contacts and we have no friends on common. There is only three of us in the office, myself, my boss and one other girl. He wouldn't find out through her cuz they aren't freinds on facebook. Also mu account is closed so if my boss wanted to search me on FB he would only see my pic and name. I am not ready to tell my boss yet but i am so ready to let my freinds who i only communciate through via FB know. So what do you think?

Why don't you message your friend privately on FB? Frankly, I think announcing it on FB = announcing it to the public.

I would never put anything on facebook that I wasn't comfortable with anyone and everyone knowing.  You never know what kind of grapevine he has.

You wouldn't believe the numerous 6, if not less, degrees of separation I have experience on FB.  Wait to tell boss, then notify FB land.

This is how I felt. I made sure everyone important knew before I said anything on FB, including my bosses. I also made sure to warn everyone I told not to post anything on FB for fear that people would find out before I had a chance to tell them.

I would not do this. I made sure that I told my boss and my managing partner before I told anyone (other than my immediate family and a couple very close friends). I think its important to not have your boss think that you are trying to hide something from them or have them hear from someone else. But it might depend what your job is like.

I told my boss on Friday and my family on Saturday night.  Then I waited a few weeks - until my next doc's appt to put it on FB and tell co-workers and friends.  I probably have weird priorities to some, but I wanted to extend the courtesy to my boss before anyone else.  And before anyone else told him.
