pumping after a year

So, how many people continued to pump after the baby is a year?  Knock on wood, but Doozer seems to be outgrowing his food issues.  I've had everything - no problems so far.  He has not had cheese or yogurt or anything like that yet, but there's time.  However, I'm dying to stop pumping during the day. I want to continue to nurse him but not pump.  After a year, does most of his nutrition come from table foods and I can nurse him as i choose?
How long do most people pump for, if your LO also nurses?

Re: pumping after a year

  • The pump got banished to the closet at 1 year with both of mine, and I kept nursing for a few more months when I was home.

  • I'm just now starting to really wean from pumping during the day (DD is 14 mths).  Most people stop at a year, though.  I have been trying to follow her lead and she is drinking less and less during the day (and nursing less when we're together), so it's getting to the point where I don't feel like it's necessary to pump.  She doesn't like cow's milk but will eat cheese and yogurt, and she still nurses AM/PM with me (and during the day on weekends).  I thought I would stop pumping at a year but when I got there it just felt a little too soon, so I kept going.  I'm looking forward to retiring the pump, though!

  • I stopped pumping and nursing at 11 1/2 months (DS weaned himself).  Most people I know stopped pumping around a year (if they made it that long), but kept nursing once or twice a day until baby weaned.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
