Alabama Babies

Any Mirena users?

I am considering Mirena as my form of birth controll.  DH and I don't plan on trying to have another child for atleast 3 years.  Did you like it???  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Any Mirena users?

  • I am also interested in this...or any of the IUD products. DH and me are pretty certain that this baby is our last, but I don't want to do anything "permanent" for a few more years.

  • I have Mirena and I love it!  I have had very little spotting and almost no cramping each month, it's been wonderful!

    What about weight gain?

  • I actually don't have it, I opted for the mini pill. I figured since I will be taking my prenatals at night, why not just take the pill too! However, my co-worker had it and hated it. The day after she pulled it out she lost 10lbs.

I haven't noticed any weight gain, although my PP loss has stalled.  I'm sure I could get it back on track if I'd just start eating right again, lol!

  • I had a long and detailed response and then my computer spazed and it was gone. Here is the quick and dirty.

I had it. First year was a breeze. AF never fully went away but was light and short. After the first year I started having problems. Heavy AFs and major cramps, put you to the ground and make you have to run to the bathroom cramps. Not fun and very painful!

I saw the OB about it and he said everything was fine. Fast forward a few more months of knowing something was off. I had it taken out after 18 months so we could TTC. It wouldn't come out! It had grown attached to the wall of my ute, thus causing all the cramps and heavy bleeding. It was a very painful removal.

Based on my experience I would not recommend it, at all! I also wonder if it has caused some of my IF issues but I will never know.

Just my two cents. Good luck with your decision.

  • I don't have it but one of my good friends had hers attach to her uterine wall in similar fashion to what Lindsey described, and I had another friend that her's just kept coming out.
  • I had one about 3 years ago. I had no idea that you were supposed to have had a baby before you got it, and the gyn that put it in didn't think to tell me it. Long story short my body was rejecting it and I ended up in the hospital having bled to the point of needed at blood transfusion.

Odviously that was not meant for me at that time in my life. I do have a very good friend that had her iud placed right after her first baby and she loves it.

Just make sure you do your research. Of course you won't have the same problem I did, but there are other things that may affect you.
