which Dr to call?

Which dr do you call to find out if a med is OK to take while BF?

I was in the hospital on Sat night and was given 2 meds.  The ER doc said they were OK to take while BF. I started the meds Sunday afternoon and have taken 3 doses of each.  Cipro and Flagyl. 

However I looked them up online and they both say the manufacturer suggests to wait 24 hours after a dose to BF.  Well I am taking both 3X a day.   That would mean to me I can not Bf while on these meds.

 I already have a call into my OB due to being in the ER over the weekend.  But do I need to call the Pedi to ask about the meds, or is my OB the best person to answer that?  

At this point I am not sure what to do.  I have a UTI, breast infection, and lower bowel infection.  I have some milk frozen, but not enough to last the 10-12 days I would be on the meds.  I do plan to stop the meds until I hear back from the OB.    not a good weekend in my house..

Probably either, but I'd ask your pedi.  You can also look it up at www.safefetus.com, it's mainly for pregnancy, but when you look up a drug, it also tells you whether it's safe for BFing at the bottom )

Sorry to hear that I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to take flagyl while BF'ing...but I think the OB is the right doctor to call. GL.

If it were me I'd call both.  I get an answer really quick from pedi so I would call there first and ask if its okay.  If not, I would be on the phone with OB and see if there are any meds you could switch to that would be safe while bf'ing.  Hope you feel better soon!
