Baby Names

Kendalyn

We honored my mother and DH's mother in DD's name. With the second baby I would really like to honor my dad "Kent."

I was thinking Kendra, Kendal, Kennedy, Kenley. But I heard the name Kendalyn the other day and fell in love.

Opinions on Kendalyn- too made up? Are you in love just as much as me? :)

Any boy suggestions? I don't want to name him Kent, just something similar sounding.

Re: Kendalyn

  • not a fan of Kendalyn.

Kendall, Kendra, and Kennedy are better choices.

I searched "Starts with KEN" on nameberry and it came up with (to name a few)

    Girls:

Kensington (if you don't find that pretentious)

    Kenna

    Boys:

    Kenan

    Kendrick

    Kenneth

    Kenton

  • Too made up sounding for me, as if someone like Gwendolyn but decided to use a K instead.  What about Kendra Lynn (FN and MN)?

For a boy, Ken is the nn for Kenneth, Kendall, Kendrick, Kennedy, Kenton, and Kenyon.

Or maybe use your dad's MN or perhaps your maiden name  :)

  • Makes me think of "gwendolyn" but I don't think it's awful or anything. What would her nn be? Keni? I think that's cute.

    How about Makenna?

    NN would be Kendi

    I hadn't thought of Makenna.

  • I don't hate Kendalyn, but it is a little too made-up for my taste. I really like Kenna or Kenly- Kendra sounds trashy to me. For boys, Kenton is my favorite, with Kendrick a distant second.

  • Kendalyn does sound made up but it actually doesn't sound that bad too me. It's not garish like some made up names. Has a nice ring to it IMO.

    This!

  • Kendalyn does sound a bit too made up for my personal taste.  I like the earlier suggestion of Makenna.  I've also heard of Laken and Anniken for girls (although the second might be a bit too "Star Wars" now).

I love Kenneth for a boy.  Other suggestions - Kenan, Kenton

  • Sorry, but I think it's awful.

  • Kendalyn isn't that bad.  It does sound kind of 'made up', but I suppose all names sound made up the first time I hear them.

To honor your dad, what about Trent?  My cousins little boy is named Trent and it's so cute on him.

  • My full name is Kendra Lynn.  I've always loved it, its always been different enough that I don't meet many people with it.

  • I can't say I like Kendalyn at all. Yes, it does sound made up. Suggestions, you ask?

    Kenna - it's Gaelic

    Kina - Hebrew

*sigh* Never mind. I guess all "Ken" names sound made up on girls. Maybe you can't avoid it in this instance. I can't say I'm a fan of  Kennedy, but I think I'd prefer it here. I also don't like Kendra, but I'd prefer it as well.

  • There was a girl in my HS with this name, her father's name was Ken.  I thought the name was pretty even though the girl wasn't very nice.
  • I actually LOVE this, its unique, but not hard to pronounce and it looks how it sounds, it flows nicely, i think its beautiful, and it Kendi is adorable and so sweet, yet i think it would sound good on a woman too! i think if it has to be a Ken name you have hit the jack pot, you aren't going ot find a more complete yet unique version of it then this! if you ask me it sounds perfect!

Ditto. I'm not wild about naming girls after male relatives or vice-versa because I do think sometimes you end up stretching a bit too much to make it work. Could you honor him with her MN instead?

  • Dislike Kendalyn. Kendra is pretty.

Kennedy for a girl and a first name at that I HATE. HATE.

What about Larken? I have always liked that with a pretty middle name.

For a boy Kenton is nice.

  • Kinda made-up/trendy, which I dont totally hate but this name doesnt sit right with me for whatever reason....

But here's some other suggestions that come to mind that you might like that are sort of the same taste?

    Kensington

    Kenzie

    Kenley

  • I love Kendalyn! Its very unique, never heard of it before, and those are names I love! I dont want want my kids to go to school and have a bunch of other kids with the same name. But, if you want another option that starts in Ken, my DD's name is Kensley. I liked the sound of Kinsley, but changed the spelling to fit my taste. But, whatever you choose will be best, and dont worry about what everyone else thinks!

Not much of an honor if you want to use a different name.  The honoring part comes from using that name.  In my opinion.

  • I actually like Kendalyn. But I LOVE Kennedy.
  • Use a name you love for a first name and Kent for the middle name. Most everything else is just awful.
