? for mothers with GD and those who have given birth

hello to all,

i am 37 weeks today with GD. my doc is going to schedule an induction at 39 weeks on monday. I have a questions for those who are pregnant with GD? what was your LO's weight at last growth ultrasound? also for those who have delivered what weight were your babies born at?  at my 34 week ultrasound he was at 5lbs 13oz. little scared about how big he will be at birth. TIA...

  • I had my son at 38 weeks and he weighed 8 lbs 8 oz (I believe he was 8 lbs at the u/s the week before).

I had my daughter at 38 weeks (on Thursday) and she was 9 lbs 13.5 oz.  I technically did not have GD this time.  She was 8 lbs 3 oz last week on u/s.

    I had c/s with both.

  • I just had a growth US on Thursday (36w4d) and she was measuring around 6lbs 4oz.  I don't think OB will schedule another US before he induces me either the 16th or 23rd.
  • I don't remember the weight they gave, but I was measuring 42 weeks at 38 weeks.  Fundal was right on track. OB insisted the u/s was off and he had to be under 8.   He was 9lbs 4 oz and I was induced at 39 weeks.  Induction was quick for me.  When I went in I was 2+.  They broke my water and I had him 1 hour and 40 min later.

  • My LOs last growth scan was at about 36 weeks, and they said he was about 5 pounds, 5 ounces.  I had an u/s every week, and although that was the last estimate of weight, they said at week 39 that he had "fat rolls."  However, when he was born at 40w3d, he weighed only 6 pounds and 2 ounces, and he had NO fat rolls.  He DID have extra rolls of skin at his knees and elbows.

  • I had my son 1 day before my scheduled induction at 39 weeks. The day before I went into labor, I had my last growth u/s to be sure we were good to go at induction. He was estimated at 8lbs 8oz and I delivered him 48 hours later and he was 8lbs 9oz.

  • My doc induced me at 39 weeks. He was 5 lbs 3oz at 35 weeks and she was guessing he would be between 9-10 lbs by the time we induced (I was measuring big). I ended up needed a c/s but he was 7 lbs 6oz, shocked us all!

  • I just had my 3rd scan today.  He measured 8 pounds 9 ounces and his belly measured in the 97%.  We decided a c-section would be the safest route.  At the scan 2 weeks ago he measured 7.5 pounds and 95% percentile and the one 2 weeks before that 5.5 pounds and 94%.  The weight estimate can be off by a pound or two, but he's consistently measured very broad and there's just too big of a risk of him getting stuck.  So I'm having a c-section on Monday.  I also have PIH, so that was another factor for inducing at exactly 39 weeks, but I definitely was not going to make it to/past 40 weeks with the GD to start with.

I've read most offices induce at 39 weeks with GD, even if LO is not measuring huge, just to avoid the extra complications that come with GD.  My office seems a little different and couldn't even induce me with PIH until 39 weeks.  So maybe his size isn't the main concern for your OB.

I think if your OB is very concerned about him measuring large he would order another growth scan, because if he's measuring very broad like mine then it might not be wise to even try a vaginal birth.

  • My LO was predicted to be 8 lbs at the last growth ultrasound, which was several weeks before I delivered.

She was born at 7 lbs 3 oz.  Just perfect.

It was always her belly that measured big, and I am not sure what the reason for this was, but it threw off the entire calculations.

  • With DD, I was told to expect a 9-10 lb baby if I waited until 39 wks. They tried to induce at 37, but DH and I both had a bad feeling and postponed it. DD was born at 39w exactly. She was 6 lb 11 oz. VERY glad we waited!
