TTC after 35

Another newbie that is taking the plunge

I'm been on the knot and the nest for years.  I was even on the BNOTB board since it's inception.  Now, I'm 36, almost done school and wondering how did time go so fast?

Well I had some medical issues 2 years ago and went off the pill then.  Since then we've been on and off trying with no luck.  We went to a fertility doctor a few weeks ago.  I had my first ultrasound and bloodwork last week.  It looked good so I started Clomid yesterday.  I have to go back next week for more bloodwork and another ultrasound.  I also have a hysterosalpinogram schedule next week too.

Is there a cheat sheet for the abbreviations like CD and such?  I'm kinda lost on all the BOTB boards.

  • Hi there!  I'm new here too.   I just turned 35 and am wondering where the time has gone as well!

I've been with my husband for 10 years and am staring to wonder, what the heck have we been waiting for?   (Married for two).   I think I spent the first 7 years worried I would get pregnant ha!   Oh well.

Sounds like you have a plan,  good luck at your next appointment.

  • Welcome!  I am 36.  I spent the first 8 years of our marriage focusing on my career and earning a graduate degree.  We only TTC for 2 1/2 months when we conceived our 1st just a few months ago!  Unfortunately, it ended w/ a mc.  However, I am hopefully optimistic that we will get pg again soon after we are cleared to TTC again next month.

  • Thanks everyone.  I'm a night shift nurse so my schedule is most of the time backwards.  I have to work tonight so I stayed up late and woke up around 2 today.
  • Hi-

I'm glad I found this board. I am brand new also. I am 36 (will be 37 in January). I've been married for 3 years (second marriage, much better this time around :)). I just finished up my undergraduate degree in May. Now I am in my dietetic internship and will finish with that in June. I have wanted kids since I can remember. I've been putting it off because I want to get through school. We did try for a short while back in 2008 for about 3-4 months with no luck. We're talking about starting to try in March 2011 so it's not cutting it too close to being in the internship. If you have any advice for me how to navigate around this site (or anything else), I would appreciate it!

  • I wouldn't put it off any longer, a lot of us did the samething and boy fertiltiy rapidly decreases with age, jobs and such can wait, eggs just keep aging and depleteing, not trying to sound negative but boy have I learned a lot and it can be a very long journey if you run into infertility issues. Best of luck!

I have to say I am very happy with my career choices and going back to school.  I would not change that if given the chance to have that or a baby.  For me, a career that pays well will help us raise our child if it does happen.  I ultimately want to be happy in life which I would have not been in my past position.

  • Welcome newbies!  Your career discussion is an interesting one.  I also have put off TTC until now.  We knew it would be an uphill climb but I don't think we would change our decision either if we could.  Good luck everyone!!!
