I think they're both good. I voted for Aimee because I grew up with an Aimee, and she was really smart, pretty, and nice, and I always thought of her name as different from all the Amys I knew, even though it sounds the same. If I were naming my daughter this, I'd go with Aimee. Actually, I might go with Amelia and shorten it to Aimee because I like Amelia too.
Re: Which spelling do you prefer? Amy/Aimee
Aimee is 1970s kre8tiv spelling.
Is it? I thought it was the French spelling. Half of the ones I know spell it Aimee.
I don't know why everyone likes to add y's to names that don't need them and take the y's out of names that do.
I would definitely go with Amy!

ETA: I guess Aimee is of French and Latin origin, but I'd still go with Amy.
You are correct. It is the French spelling.
I don't want to name a child this name. I just wanted to know which spelling you prefer.
I saw this:
Origin of the name Amy:
Derived from the Middle English Amye, which is from the Old French Aimee (beloved), a name derived from the verb aimer (to love).
No it's not....it's the traditional French spelling.
No - it's the French spelling. I was born in 1975 and grew up with a lot of girls named Amy but only knew one Aimee, and that's the spelling I prefer.
This. Amy is actually the Americanized bastard of Aimee.
