Switching peds....anyone do this?

DS already has a 1 year appt scheduled so I'm going to stay with that but after that I think we are going to switch to a different one.  What is the next well visit appt after the 1 year mark??

Re: Switching peds....anyone do this?

  • I think it varies depending on the pedi, but ours is 15 months.

  • within the same practice, or a new practice?

We tried switching within the same practice and it was a fiasco because nobody else had apparently ever done that before.  If that's the case, call and ask them if that's feasible.

I think there is a 15 month appt but I can't recall b/c we're on his actual age schedule and I get it mixed up :) You can Google it.

  • We have not switched but we did 12, 18, 24, and scheduled a 36 mo/3 year check.

Different office/practice all together.   The guy we go to now is fine but he's a bit TOO laid back for me that it almost gets on my nerves.  I'll probably make the next appt whatever it is with them and then get switched over to a new and cancel at our current one.

Oh and update on the flu shot.....took DS to St. Francis to get the flu shot (dr faxed over order for it) and of course I get charge for a hospital visit.  Not happy...having to now fight with my insurance that we were referred there to get the flu shot!!!  damned if i do and damned if i dont!

  • We had a 12, 15, and 18 month.  She goes again at 24.

Good to know...sounds like we stay at every 3 months then.  I cant wait to switch pedi's.   I guess I could do it before his 1 year appt but I just feel like since I already have that appt set that I might as well keep it and then work on getting him switched to a new one after that.

If/When I call the new pedi will they call my old one to get his files switched??

Probably.  They probably will just have you sign a form or something.  I've never had do do my own legwork for records of any kind.

Additionally, make sure you interview new pedis to make sure you're comfortable and don't have to move him again, you know?

We interviewed the one we have now and just over time now I'm starting to not like the office/practice.  He's a great/nice doctor but I think he is too laid back and may not catch things that a younger Dr. would.  We are going to move a younger/female Dr. that was a recommendation by a friend at my work who actually caught a tumor/cancer in her granddaughters brain!

  • After 12 months...our appts were at 15m, 18m, then 2 years old.  We've actually switched once, and we're about to switch again in January b/c my insurance is changing.
