Heavy night wetters- HELP!

Ok, we've been using disposables at night because my girls are huge wetters and we've not been able to find a night combination that works. However, K has started a habit of poo at around 5am, and since this is usually her poo for the day, it has been a blowout more often than not. So I'm ready to start tackling the night wetting problem again, because I'd rather do that than deal with poo blowouts at 5am every morning.

I have: Thirsties AIO's, Thirsties Pockets, Thirsties Covers (can you tell we like Thirsties?), some other random PUL covers, Cotton inserts, MF inserts, Hemp Doublers, and a few prefolds. Hit me with your best night combination for relatively skinny girls.

ETA: I'm not adverse to buying something if lots of people have had it work for them, I'm just really trying to not buy a bunch of random diapers to try and then have them not work.

  • A good, absorbent fitted under a wool cover is what I always recommend for a heavy night wetter.

If you want to make do with what you have, you can try the pockets stuffed with two or three inserts. Or especially now that it's getting cooler, put them in fleece PJs overnight. The fleece will catch whatever the diaper doesn't, keeping the sheets dry.

  • Goodmama fitted with an extra doubler and a wool cover work best for us.  Monkey Snuggles Overnights rock too, but DS has outgrown the rise on it recently so I'm getting a custom made.  All in all, your best nighttime solution for a heavy wetter is going to be a fitted (probably with an extra hemp or bamboo soaker) paired with wool- it's bulletproof for us.  GL!

  • Ok, so I'm hearing bit the bullet and invest in a couple of wool covers. Any brand recommendations?

  • My DS has peed through wool before so that's when I went to huggies overnights. I just started tackling it again and an SBish snapless multis with both inserts and AFFF hemp under wool longies worked last night. The back of the diaper and inserts were t even wet. He's a belly sleeper so the inside of the wool was damp but that's okay. He's peed through SO many other night diapers.

I make my own, from old sweaters I get at thrift stores. A nice thick sweater with an extra layer in the wet zone works great, and costs a few bucks.

If you don't sew, look for recycled wool covers on Diaper Swappers, etc.. Before I learned, I bought one there for less than $5, and it was awesome! Nice and thick and perfect for overnight. Not the prettiest cover, but who cares, when it's just going under PJs?
