s/o Dora vs Diego

My son loves Dora, he really doesn't care about Diego. He has a Dora doll because he wanted it so badly, and I have no problem with it. But what annoys me is that, IMO, Dora herself and the show is pretty gender neutral. I mean, she's an explorer. That's not exactly girly. But it's all of the products that are geared only towards girls. I tried to find a Dora doll that looked neutral, but I ended up buying one in a pink dress, lol.

We have both Dora and Diego on DVR, DS always asks for Dora.  I don't think the show is particularly girly, the main character is a girl, so what.  Honestly, anything DS really wanted to play with at this age would be a-ok wiht me, but he does tend to play with the "boy" toys more than girl ones.

LOL- DS has 2 words.  And has for some time- Dora and meow.  Oh  dear.  I love the show because of that- the gender neutrality.  I like that Dora is empowered!  But I agree about the toys.  I'm trying to think if there are any boy characters that girls play with...

My DS is the same way - he LOVES Dora, but he doesn't really care about Diego. I was also telling DH how weird it was that most of the Dora products are bright pink and purple when it is obviously not a show just for girls. He loves the books, shows and his Dora sippy cups. I got one of the free potty seats with my Pampers points, and I chose Dora over Diego, knowing he would like it better.

Olivia loves Dora but also Diego. She had a Diego party for her bday but she always goes back to Dora. She engages kids more to me lol

I tried to find DD Toy Story underwear, and everything I can find is geared towards boys. So, she is getting boys underwear for Christmas.

I am pretty sure a lot of people disagree with this but oh well.

I never even thought about that, the Toy Story stuff is definitely all geared towards boys, and it is a completely gender neutral movie I think. So weird.

my mom just got DD a Dora doll and I was actually pretty impressed w/ how neutral it is/was.  She in her regular TV outfit and is carrying her backpack and its totally neutral - I also got a Dora bath/pool doll w/ Boots @ Target and it was very neutral too - No sparkles or glitter anywhere.  I did get a DD a Dora backpack a that has a lot of purple and glitter.

That is funny! My DD is obsessed with Diego. She will watch Dora but prefers Diego! ty Beanie baby makes one that is Dora just like she is on the show.

My DD too. She way prefers Diego! I think its because of the animals, she loves animals and rescuing. Her all time favorite show is Wonder Pets.

Yep, I've been saying this for weeks. Eveyrthing for Dora is girly. I can't find any boy stuff with Dora on it (I'm talking about clothes and pajamas and stuff.) Although, she is on our edamame and that's pretty gender nuetral!
