Hello ladies,
DH and I have been seriously considering switching to cloth diapers because we hear it is cheaper.
I was curious what you like and dislike about cloth diapering
and
if there are any internet resources you would recommend to me.
thank you so much!!!
Re: thinking about switching to cloth
there's an FAQ at the top of the page. also,i like https://allaboutclothdiapers.com/ (click on 'new to cloth' at the top)
we just switched at 7 months and i love it. i didn't realize until i switched, but sposies stink and now i find them not so nice. cd's are also much better for baby and the environment, less expensive (if you don't get addicted, like a lot of the girls on here!) and wayyyyy cuter! good luck!
I also recommend www.diaperpin.com for a lot of reviews of cloth diapers! And definitely check out the FAQ.
I like it because it's cute, it's cheaper (you can buy a really nice stash for $500 and be done) and it's better for her skin. Disposables feel gross and they stink. We alos really don't have a problem with blowouts. Poop always seems to try to come out the back, but the only time it's ever actually happened was when the diaper wasn't on right. We've had it out the leg a time or two, but it's rare.
The laundry really isn't that bad, either. I do laundry every other day or so. And laundry is one of those chores where you just throw it in and leave it. The only difficulty is getting the right routine for you and your washer and water combination (front loaders require a little more work to get the routine right.)
Do it do it do it!!!
Cheaper, cuter, better on baby's bottom, better for baby's world, and fun!
And its seriously easy.
Here is what I did: I have been using disposables and recently wanted to switch. I bought one diaper (a bumgenius 3.0) and just ordered 3 more (2 fuzzibunz and another BG). I started just at night and I love it. I will start to begin to build my stash. I recommend you try it with a few diapers or a trial program before you make a huge investment and decide its not for you or your lifestyle.
It's all we've done, but I find it very easy and love it. Your cheapest option is prefolds & covers - if you go that route it's really not much work. I did laundry daily for the first two months and then switched to every other day. I found jillian's drawers 'new to cloth' section to be very helpful, especially the suggestions of how much of each you'll need. Consider buying used, especially for things that don't actually touch the baby (snappis & covers).
Good luck!
