XP: Did anyone lose more weight after 2nd..or 3rd?

This is a repost from 12-24. Did anyone lose more weight with 2nd or 3rd than they did with 1st? I am hoping this is possible. I didnt get to breast feed with DD, but really want to this time. I hope that helps, along with chasing a 2 year old and having more drive this time around to get in better shape. I am already excersing more this pregnany and eating better this time around, plus I am adding more fruits and veggies to help DD eat right too.  I started this pregnany with 15 lbs from LO #1 which is terrible, but I have managed to not gain any weight this time around.. yet. I am doing my best.

Hope from anyone would be great!! Advice is also welcome.

  • NOPE! In fact, I BF my 3rd for the longest and am heavier than I was when I got PG with DD#1.

I ONLY gained 24lbs with each girl and 18lbs with DS.

    GL!

  • Another nope.  I gained 50lb each time.  I lost the weight easily after DS and was down to my pre-baby weight by the time he was 5-6 months old and was fitting into jeans that hadn't fit just prior to the pregnancy.  I gained the exact same amount with DD and it's been way harder to lose the weight.  I'm still up ~8 pounds.  I didn't breast feed either time.

I think it was easier after having #1 because when he slept, I had "me time".  So I'd do the Shred while he was napping or when he went to bed, I'd put together a healthy lunch, etc.  When he was awake, I had just one to deal with, so as long as he was happy it was no big deal to get the stroller out for a walk or get to the store for those healthy meal ingredients.  Having the 2nd meant I was twice as tired and had half the free time (since they didn't always nap at the same time or go to bed at the same time early on).  I just didn't have the time to focus on my body.

I hope you'll have an easier time!  I guess my only advice is that if it doesn't happen quickly, hang in there.  It's gotten MUCH easier now that DD is STTN and napping at the same time as DS.  I'm also able to take them to the gym day care (never wanted to when DD was smaller).  So keep in mind that the early days may just be about survival, and you'll have a better chance to focus on you down the line.

  • Yep!

I gained 50lbs. with DD1, lost 30lbs. and then gained back almost all of that after I weaned her and got my IUD.

I started off my 2nd pregnancy weighing about what I did at the end of my 1st pregnancy but I was a LOT sicker the 2nd time around and only ended up gaining about 6lbs. the entire pregnancy (lost 15 in 1st and 2nd tri then slowly gained that back plus the 6 additional pounds).

I've already lost 20+ pounds since giving birth and almost weigh my lowest since before I was pregnant with DD1. I'm hoping the weight loss continues, it would be nice to finally get back to my pre-DD1 weight but I'm still a ways off from that (around 25-30 pounds to go). I've hit a bit of a plateau but hopefully keeping up with Bfing and trying to eat a bit healthier this time around (and eventually adding exercise back in...when I get the all clear) will help!

  • I did :)

I put on over 50lb's whilepg with #1. Lost all but 20lb's and got pg with #2. Gained only 20lb's and lost all 20lb's plus an extra 10 :) But yes, I also worked my a** off starting at 3 weeks PP and plan to do the same after #3 :)

    It IS possible. GL!

  • I lost more and faster after having the twins- i think b/c mentally after i had griffin- i knew i wanted to get pg soon after so the thought of working hard to lose weight just to get pg again = lame.

after i had the twins i knew i was done having babies- so i joined Jenny Craig and lost 27lbs in a few months easily.  I have kept it off, too (gaining a little and losing a little along the summer).

  • I still have 18 lbs to go. I got pg when ds was 3 mo last time so hard to say. But I just got a double jogging stroller and I LOVE it. It was new but I got it on CL for $100. I just walk fast. I'm hoping it helps. The boys seem to enjoy it. That's what I would recommend.

  • Yes.  I gained 25lbs pg with DS and lost almost all of it by the time I was 6 months pp.  I got pg again, and only gained 19lbs.  I have lost about 25 since giving birth, so I weigh less than I did when I got pg with DS.  I eat terribly and don't exercise regularly, so I am attributing it to chasing after a toddler and BFing.  Good luck!

  • I did! :o)

I didn't BF either child though, and it didnt come off from chasing around my older one either. After I had DS2 I wasnt eating well, and wasnt making good eating choices. I actually GAINED weight after he was born.

Then I decided that enough was enough and I went on a diet. So I lost a lot, but I also put in a lot of hard work. I am not one of those people who just lost it easily. But I did lose it. I am lower than my wedding weight right now (and I was small for my wedding). So it is certainly doable, good luck!!!

  • I was going through a divorce after having DS so I lost the weight really fast and was sickly thin.....but after DD1 I was down to prebaby weight within 6 months with just some walking and BF (no dieting).  This time around I only have 5 lbs left to lose and we stopped BF about a week ago.  I'm hoping stopping doesn't slow my weight loss down and now I can't walk so much because it's getting cold out :(  Think I might load up the double stroller and take the girls to the mall to walk a couple of times a week or something........GL to you :)

Yay for you!  That's awesome!  It's also encouraging because once again I will be FF & so many people say that losing weight is so easy if you breastfeed...but I FF.  Good encouragement! :)

  • I'm not sure I can really answer this yet, but at less than 2 weeks pp my weight is dropping faster than it did the last time. I gained 35lb with Harris and was down 28lb at one month with him. I gained 40lb this time and am down 26lb at 12 days pp. Ultimately I think it will level out and I'll still end up at my pre-pg weight just like I have every other time. The difference is that this time I actually have a goal to get in shape, something I didn't try to do any other time. My best weight loss after Harris was 4 lb under my pre-pg weight. I'm hoping for more this time, but mainly because I'm planning to start exercising as soon as I get the go-ahead from my doctor.
