VBAC

anyone here VBAC after an emergency C/S due to abruption?

I SO want to VBAC....I had an abruption with my son at 35 weeks and had a c-section....

In this pregnancy I have also had pain around my scar...the doctor told me it is adhesions from the c/s anyone else have this? This frightens me that the scar will open and my uterus will rupture during VBAC....irrational, probably...but I still have the fear.

  • It seems like there's an increased risk for placental abruption if you've already had it.It also states that abruption is more likely with people who go into labor early.

I'm all about the waiting game if you really want a VBAC. If I were you, I'd certainly want to be at a hospital that could handle an emerg. c/s.  I guess I'd wait and see if I held the baby full term and go from there.  I'd probably try to take the attitude that things may not go how I want them to, but along the way I'd do my best to advocate for the healthiest birth for my baby. VBAC first, c/s second.

I hated my two turned into emerg. c/s and while I'd love a VBAC and the ability to be present and non-medicated at my child's birth, at this point I'd just prefer a non-traumatic birth no matter how the baby arrives in my arms.

  • From what I have learned about VBAC lately, they say do not attempt a VBAC after a UR.

  • I did not have a uterine rupture....I had a placental abruption...completely spontaneous at 35 weeks.

  • I had an almost complete placenta abruption at 37 weeks (not in labor at the time) and required an emergency C/S.  I would recommend to you the ICAN website- they have stats for uterine rupture.  The risk of uterine rupture is LESS than 1% (I think its .07).  The odds of you having a placenta abruption is 1% and if you've had one before the odds go up to 10%.  When I do get pregnant again I will do a VBAC (my first was a vag) because in my opinion I have a much higher risk of a placenta abruption than a uterine rupture and if I can make it until the birth date (I will not do an induction) without a placenta abruption, I would feel very confident that I won't have a uterine rupture.  Also keep in mind that the risk is lower for a uterine rupture if its a non-induced labor.  Pain around the scar is very normal- its the stretching of the scar tissues and daily massages have eased the tension for many women.
  • I don't know about the abruption because I did not have that in either pregnancy, but I did have pain around my scar for my second pregnancy.  My midwife assured me that the stretching will do that and as long as it wasn't a constant sharp pain I was good.
