Did anyone transition from E.A.S.Y.?

I've been doing this with them since they were 8 weeks.  It was GREAT up until about 4 months old, and they seemed ready for another kind of schedule.  The trouble is that I don't know how to transition them away from the Eat-Activity-Sleep cycle.  I'd like to move into some kind of schedule where we eat every 3 hours and take a couple good naps during the day, not these ridiculous catnaps of 30 minutes 4x a day and eating every 2 hours.

Any ideas on how to do this?  Thanks!

  • We transitioned from EASY. My boys shifted to a 4-hr feeding schedule by about 2 months though so we were still able to follow EASY for a while. At 4m we were doing bottles around 7:30, 11:30, 4 and 8 p.m. and naps from about 9-11:30, 1:30-4, and 5:30-6:30, and then down for the night around 8:30 p.m.

  • we kept a 3-hour eating schedule until they were almost 12mo- but eventually they transition to less naps - it just happens - i had no real "method" to it- just following their sleepy cues - eventually they just take 3 naps... then 2... then around 13mo went to 1 nap.

  • I don't have any experience with transitioning twins yet, but with DS#1 we stayed with EASY until he was about 12 months.  We did go to a four hour schedule which allowed for longer naps.  I believe Baby Whisperer calls it the 4/4 rule, 4 months 4 hours.  As he got older, I also was not as strict with the four hour routine.  If he needed to eat earlier or sleep longer I let him go.  He started with 3 naps, then 2 naps, and finally to one nap.  He is 22 months and still takes a 2-3 hour nap.

I have learned that you have to do what works best for you and your babies.  Take advice from the books and other Moms then put it all together to make your own routine.
