I'm only halfway through my pregnancy so we're just starting to think of things like this. So I have a few questions about using cloth diapers. Well for one, I didn't even know people still used cloth diapers!
I tried reading some of the posts but got pretty confused. I don't know what a flip is, or a CD. It seems that there are alot of different brands and kinds to use. Which are the best? Do you choose one and stick with it or get multiple brands?
My DH thought I was crazy when I brought it up because he can't wrap his mind around having to clean it out. How do you clean them? Especially the solids? I've read that you have to wash them 3 or 4 times (once cold and 2 hot? i think it said)
I see that alot of moms use and love them so if you would be so kind as to help a soon-to-be new mommy (this is our first!) out with this decision I would really love it!
Thanks in advance!
Re: Should we use cloth diapers?
CD = cloth diapers
Try reading the links in the FAQ at the top of the board. That will help you understand the posts on the board.

This is a good website to help you start to understand what everything is all about. It does start to make sense once you learn the basics of each type of cloth diaper.
Hi,
I can try answering some of your questions. My DS is 3 months old and I remember how overwhelming it was to CD (cloth diaper) and ask questions about it. I think the most important thing about CD's is two questions. Do you want OS (one size fits all) or a multi size system (where you need to replace them as your little one grows out of them).
I know for me I wanted a OS cloth diaper that DS could stay in from newborn till he was out of diaper so we went with the BM 3.0 and 4.0 (Bum Genius). They look and act pretty much like a disposable diaper except you have to shove a hemp liner into it. DS couldn't fit into the BG's diapers till he was about 10bls. We have 20 of them and LOVE them. He has never had a diaper rash, never had a blow out and we have never had to buy diapers (disposables) which has saved us tons of money. I do the laundry every other day and it is really easy to wash them. I typically do it after we put DS to sleep. I do a full cycle on cold, a fully cycle on hot and then just add in an extra rinse. I know it sounds overwhleming but once you do it once or twice it will become so easy.
I do agree that you should try to find a local store or group that sells CD's as you probably want to check out what you like. I'm thrilled that you are interested in trying to CD though- i try to convert all my friends. It is so much cheaper, better for the enviroment and of course better for your LO.
Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy.
I agree with the pp - I was very confused when I first started looking into them and was not able to find a local resource to meet with, but I just followed the recommendations for a "stash" on jilliansdrawers.com under 'new to cloth' and have had the perfect amount. We registered at jilliansdrawers.com and target (both target & bru sell Bum Genius All In Ones online). With gifts & gift certificates from generous friends and family we only ended up putting in $70 of our own money and hopefully will not spend anything through potty training besides the cost to wash them.
My suggestions are to register for them if you're able, don't be scared of prefolds and covers (your most economical options - they are very easy) and buy everything used you feel comfortable with (we did everything that didn't touch the babies private parts directly, but many people would buy everything used).
Good luck!
