Put on bed rest today

Hi ladies,

I was put on strict bedrest today because I was having contractions, dialated 1cm, his head is really low, cervix has shortened and started to funnel a little. I am in shock right now and praying we make it for another month.

When your doctor said lay on your side, how come you can't recline sit up? Just curious.

Thanks!

  • Generally, reclining or sitting up puts more pressure on your already weak cervix. By laying on your side, you are essentially taking pressure off of your cervix. Hope that helps.

  • I was in your same situation (funneling, shortened cervix to 1 cm, contractions etc). I was put on strict bed rest at 20 weeks. It was by far the hardest thing I've done, but it works. Laying on your side is the best. Hang in there!  GL!
  • Thanks ladies! So how often do you lay on your side? My back and hips start to hurt after a while when I do.

  • This is my 2nd pg with PTL and I will tell you laying on your LEFT side gets the best blood flow to the baby. With my first pg, I laid on my left side for 5 weeks to keep her in. This one, Ive been on bedrest for so long, I go back and forth between my left and right side, but my OB did tell me that the left side is the best.
  • For the 4 weeks I was in the hospital on bedrest and the 3 weeks after that, I laid on my side nearly 24 hours a day, with emphasis on my left side. After a while, I couldn't even lay on my back if I wanted to. The twins were putting too much weight on me and I couldnt' breathe while laying on my back.
