With my c/s for DD I've never been given a reason as to why she did not progress farther than she did. I pushed for 3 hours and she made no progress after the first hour. I opted for the c/s before it turned into an emergency situation, even though neither she nor I were in distress at that point. When I asked the OB who did my c/s why, his response was "sometimes it just happens." I really regret not pushing harder for a better answer, but at 2 weeks PP, I just didn't have it in me.
I live in a pretty rural area where I only have 3 OB practices and 1 hospital to chose from. I have switched practices to the one that allows VBACs, but they are my only choice for attempting a VBAC. There are 9 OBs in the practice, and some are very supportive of my attempting a VBAC, and others have tried to talk me out of it. They are assuming that it was DD's size, but they don't know. DD was a bigger baby (8lb6oz), but I'm inclined to think it was her position, though I have no proof. And it frustrates me that they make that assumption about size, as they have no proof.
So I'm frustrated that I'm in this postion to begin with with no reason, and then I'm frustrated with some of the doctors in the practice for their attitudes on who is a good VBAC candidate. And if anyone has any words of wisdom or advice, I'd really appreciate it, and thank you if you've made it this far through my vent.
Re: My frustration
I'm sorry that you experienced that. I wish I could help and give you some answers but I could only speculate (maybe because you were on your back? not able to walk around?) as to i am not a doctor and don't know very specific details.
I hope you find peace with it soon.
I'm sorry you can't get a straight answer from anyone, that sucks.
Do you know spinningbabies.com? She has info about how babies' positions have to do with how easily they come out...DS1 was posterior, and didn't have his chin flexed, so he just didn't come out either. DS2 was anterior/lined up correctly, and he had no problems coming out. The other big thing that I think made a difference was going to a chiropractor for adjustments - there are ones who specialize in the Webster Technique, which supposedly lines up your pelvis and makes the baby get in a better position. hth
