My LO came home from the NICU on 10/18. When he came home
the dr's there had us to fortify his breast milk with Neosure. Well, he
doesn't do well with it and is having constant gas, cries, and pretty
much refuses his bottles. I told our pedi about this and he gave us a
can of Nutramigen to try. Well, we're getting the same thing. I'm really
at a loss and don't know what else to do!Is there anything else I can do? Did anyone have a DC take a formula other than Neosure? He's already on Zantac twice a day
for reflux. Has anyone tried soy? I'm about ready to try anything
because he can't even sleep some nights because of his tummy. Time he
starts a bottle you can hear his tummy gurgling.

Re: Formula issues.. not sure what to try next
we were both on neosure in the nicu and it was really doing a number on their stomachs so we switched to enfamil enfacare- same amount of calories as neosure and still a preemie formula.
so far we have seen much better results!
similac is very tough on babies..
Ditto trying strictly breast milk, if he does better you know it's the formula and can try another one....still having problems, you can try removing things from your diet and see how that goes. It takes a good 3 days to see a change when you switch your diet though. For formulas, I'd try nestle good start next, IF you're going to try another one.
GL!
My LO was released from the NICU on 10/18, too. I have been following your blog...we have a similar story.
Anywho, to answer your question...I supplement breast milk with Similac's-Alomentum. However, it's very pricey. That seems to be be the only thing that LO stomach can tolerate reasonably. She is on Zantac for acid reflux, too, HTH
we were a good start family as well.
It turned out that my LO couldn't handle the corn in the other formulas.
My Blog
I don't have any suggestions as to what to do to fortify the BM, but wanted to share my experience with regards to formula.
My guys alternated between bottles of formula and BM. After weeks of dealing with tummy troubles my Mom remembered that neither me nor my brother were able to use any powered formula. We decided to give the ready to feed a try and noticed a positive difference right away. Maybe you could give that a try for a couple of feedings a day to get extra calories in.
Good luck!
