Height/Length question

DS was born on 7/24 at 31 weeks weighing 4lbs and measuring 17 inches. Since then (now six weeks adjusted), he's tripled his weight (to 12 lbs) but hasn't grown a lot in length (now 20 in.) DH and I are both tall (6'4'' and 5'9'', respectively), so I'm wondering if catching up height wise comes later than catching up in weight. Anyone a little further along in the journey have any insight?

I think 3 inches is a pretty good gain in length. DS was 17 in at 34 weeks and now is 24 inches at 4 months. Also, length is very subjective to who is measuring him. My DS is a different length at the children's hospital than at the pedi's office. Sounds like he is growing well!

My dd def caught up with weight sooner than length.  She was on the regular growth chart for weight at 4 months (1st percentile) but didn't make it for height until 6 months.  Sometimes they grow out before they grow up.  Don't worry too much your 4 month old is only 9 inches shorter than my 15 month old!

My 34 weeker caught up in height/length first (28 inches at 6 month check up) and was in the 95th percentile for a full termer. Her weight was only in the 50th though for a full termer.I think every baby is different and your LO is growing some so that's all you can ask. I say he'll catch up soon though.

It seems height usually catches up later than weight. My 17lb 9.5 month old is only 26 inches!

The articles I've read say the order goes, head circumference, weight, height

i have to agree with pp about the head, weight , and then length. D's percentiles started at ; 5; and 10% for height, weight, and head. at his 6 month check up they were 5; 10; and 75 (!!!).....

Just remember the size of the baby does not determine the size of the adult.
