IUI ladies, question about trigger

I did my trigger shot of ovidrel last night and although I briefly read over the side effects I didn't pay too much attention since I never really remembered hearing complaints about it.  Certainly not like the horror that is being on clomid.  Today, I'm feeling rather crappy.  My stomach is off, my back hurts, and I just don't feel right.  I feel crampy too, but that I would fully expect.  Did you experience this and how long did it last? My husband leaves tomorrow after the iui for the weekend and I am flying solo which includes a birthday party at a bounce place.

Thanks, I would have posted this on the secondary IF board, but it's really really slow.

Re: IUI ladies, question about trigger

  • The Ovidrel is a crap-ton of hcg horomone so it makes you feel instantly pregnant, not a build up over time.  I felt very similar to how your feeling and had a nagging headache.  My doc told me to use a heat pad for the cramps and take tylenol.  I remember the symptoms being gone in a day or so.  Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you so much, that's what I like to hear!

  • I did an HCG trigger shot 3 times, an Ovidrel once. I didn't experience any noted s/e with them (but, I also didn't get any s/e with Clomid). I forget what the brochure wrote about s/e....like you, I glanced at it and then tossed it aside.

I googled it and it says:

COMMON:Nausea; pain, swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site; vomiting.

Seek medical attention: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloating or swelling in the stomach or pelvic area; breast pain; chest pain; infrequent urination; irregular heartbeat; leg pain; persistent or severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; severe pelvic pain; stomach pain; sudden shortness of breath; weight gain.

I don't see any mention about back pain though...maybe you have something else going on (beginning of a flu, or something like that?)

The Ovidrel was out of my system about 4 days later, so if what you're experiencing is indeed a s/e, the effects should lessen and lessen over the next few days and then disappear completly.

  • Exactly what Kelin said.   I hope that you feel better!
  • What Kelin said, she is wise :)  I hope you feel better soon... actually, I don't :-P  I hope you continue to feel pregnant because you ARE pregnant, not just because of the trigger :)

  • I did Ovidrel as well, and don't remember too many s/e, but I also started Progesterone right then, so I may be attributing the symptoms I was feeling to that and not the trigger.
  • The Ovidrel made me very crampy and back achy - esp the first time I took it.  Should only last a few days - hope you feel better soon.

  • I think my main s/e's were a headache and constipation...drink lots of water!

  • I'm sorry, but I don't remember much in the way of Ovidrel s/e.  I do, however, remember the yuckiness that is progesterone suppositories (I just stopped taking them Tuesday, so it's not such a stretch to remember. ;0).  I do not like them at all.
