Sorry if this is frequently asked here - I had a 26 week 4 days growth scan and cervix check yesterday. All 3 babies look great, perfect fluids. A&C are 2 pounds (44th percentile) and B is my chunker at 2.5 (69th percentile). I was so thrilled with their progress
My cervix isn't holding up as well, it's down to 1.75 cm from 2.50 2 weeks ago. FFN came back negative thank goodness. they put me on restricted activities, no going to the office, housework, shopping, etc but I can still work at my computer at home.
Have any of you dealt with a cervix this short and were able to hang on and deliver much further down the line? I'd just love to make it to 34/35 weeks.
TIA
Re: Short cervix success stories?
My cervix was down to 2.4cm at 20 weeks with funneling. I was put on modified bedrest and was able to hold steady for about 10 weeks. At 30 weeks, my cervix was down towards 1.5cm I believe and I was 1cm dilated. At 31 weeks, I started having contractions and dilated to 3cm. I was on hospital bedrest until 34 weeks and then went home. I made it all the way to 36 weeks 2 days. I think bedrest helped a TON! So if you take it easy, I think you have a good chance of making it much farther. And of course call your doctor if anything feels unusual.
Also, congrats on the great weights of your babies and the fact that they are doing so well. Good luck - I hope your cervix holds steady for many more weeks!
I only had twins but I think mines a success story under PSA cervical checks.
I think bedrest really helped. I only got up so shower once a day and to get snacks.
Keep em cookin! Good luck!
Yes - I was admitted to the hospital at 26w4d for a shortened cervix (less than 2) and contractions. I was sent home after a week and put on strict bedrest (only able to leave bed to go to the bathroom, shower every other day, and go to doctor appointments) - I was admitted to the hospital again around 31 weeks for another week, but was sent home and I made it to 36w6d.
My cervix stayed around 1ish and I never dilated past 1cm - I never went into labor, but had to deliver due to sudden onset of pre-e and poor blood flow through my daughter's cord.
I agree with PP - I think bedrest really helped...I would take it easy and listen to your doctor as far as the activities you're allowed to do.
Stories like this are very encouraging!
My cervix was at 1.5 cm at 26 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital for strict bed rest and monitoring. After 2 weeks my cervix was holding steady, and they sent me home. I was admitted again two days later - but that's because my BP was high, I had GD and the beginnings of pre-eclampsia.
Anyways - I made it to 33 weeks - but delivered because of the pre-e not because of my cervix. So there is definitely hope. But be sure to really restrict activity and stay off of your feet. Listen to your body and take care of yourself. Keep those babies cooking!
Me! I was at a 0.8 with funneling starting at 22wks5days and held on for 10 weeks until I delivered the girls. I was also on strict hospital bedrest and could not sit up (even to eat!) or lay on my back. It was only on my sides and I could take a 5 minute shower every 3 days.
I had weekly get togethers with other women who were in Antepartum long term and I had gotten brave and wanted to sit up during a meeting and I think it went south from there.
FWIW, I was also contracting the entire time so it was affecting my uterus more than it would others who only had a shortened cervix.
I started with a long cervix. At about 30 weeks it went from 3.7 at the previous appt to 1.5 the next due to baby B forcing his head to push baby A out of 1st place spot and lots of BH. I was put on modified bedrest but it didn't seem like enough.
At 31 weeks, I went to L&D and it was down to 1.0 and positive FFN. I was given Procardia and sent home on full bedrest.
At 32 weeks I was in again and it was down to 0.4 and was put on 36 hours of Mag sulfate and given steroid shots thinking they were coming within a couple of days. I was sent home on full bedrest, procardia and had NST twice a week.
I finally broke through the Procardia and had the babies at 36 weeks. No NICU time!!! Babies were perfectly healthy and came home with me.
