Babies on the Brain

I have a rash on my scalp

it's not pretty and it itches/burns like crazy.  Those that know what I do for a living, know this is not good for my image..lol

It probably/obviously from a product I use but short of stopping everything I don't know what to do.  I cut out anything that I started using recently and have used Tea Tree shampoo the last three times and I think its getting worse.  I really really do not want to have to go to the derm for this.

  • yuck. no fun. You can go to a walk-in clinic or your regular doc for most rashes.

  • Maybe try some cortaid or something on it at night and then wash it out in the morning? T-Gel? It's pretty awful smelling but helps a lot with itchy scalp

  • While I love Tea Tree oil products for my skin, they greatly exacerbate my scalp issues (eczema.) I would step back on that product for sure.

What do you mean by a rash? An actual rash? Red, bumpy itchy? Or is it flaky and dry?

I like to use coconut oil on my scalp when it gets bad. I'll usually apply it Friday nights and leave it in over the weekend if we are going to be home. It's a little greasy, but up in a bun or pony it's not so bad.

It started out super itchy, the progressed to very very flaky.  After I washed it this evening I was inspecting and there are bright red blotchy scaly areas.

That's exactly what my eczema looks like. :(  I use Neutragena T-gel to keep the flakes in check, the oil on weekends to super moisturize it, allergy meds everynight (generic zyrtec) and the more water I drink the better it is.

After you mentioned eczema I started thinking how I have eczema on my hands, and it has come back with a vengence in the last month or so.  SUPER...not.  Unfortunately, I cannot take any allergy meds because I am breastfeeding, but I will try some Nioxin products that are made for ezcema and see what happens.

This is what DH uses and he has psoriasis I don't know how much more itchy you can get than that.  Hope you feel better!

  • Bev, My doc ok'd Benedryl.  I would take it after A went to sleep for the night.  I don't know if your comfortable with that but it might be worth a call to your doc/nurse to see what they say.

  • If it is scaly it might be psoriasis.  It's loads of fun on the scalp.  I would go to the derm.

  • Have you tried straight aloe on your scalp?  That helps my psoriasis.
