Postpartum Depression

Hello and some questions about delayed PPD?

I had my DS 9 weeks ago and felt really good about everything. I had him Aug 30th, we closed on our home September 2nd and on the 28th we had moved. I'm just now feeling like I'm being pulled in every direction possible and crawling out of my skin. Here is my backstory:

This is my 3rd pg and I have a 4 year old and 2 year old....with my 2nd pg, my DD had colic and in hindsight I feel that I did have PPD or the very least extended baby blues. I was prescribed an anti depressant but by the time I finally convinced myself to take one I was already feeling better and discontinued use after a couple of days. Needless to say, after my DS was born life was very busy and hectic and I did not have any time at all to slow down. Now that things are back to a routine, it seems as if things are getting harder for me. I'm also a caregiver to my mom who lives in a assisted living facility.

The worse is when my son has his crabby period from about 5-7 p.m....it doesn't happen all of the time, but when it does it just sets me off in a mood. I become very depressed, pissed off, especially when all 3 of my kids are either sassing, whining and crying. My dh travels a bit so when he is working it is just the kids and I. I feel as if I'm more angry then sad though.

Just wondered if any of you ladies out there felt that you were just fine after the birth of your LO and then all of a sudden PPD set in. Or if any of you felt anger more than anything. I was debating on whether or not to talk to my primary or my OB, but decided on my OB since she knows me so well. I have an appointment with her next week.

  • I would definitely talk to your OB.  And I wouldn't say that this is "delayed" at all.  PPD can set in anytime in the first year or a year after weaning.  My PPD had a whole lot to do with anger as well as depression.  It can't hurt to talk to your OB.  GL
