Pack n Play VS Playpen?

I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions on whether to choose a pack n play or a regular playpen. I dont really understand what the deal is with pack n plays. I found a playpen I LOVE, and it seems to have much greater visibility than all the pack n plays I have seen.

Any feedback?

Here is a picture of the one I love

Re: Pack n Play VS Playpen?

  • We opted for the pack n' play or play yard because of the infant sleeper. They also vibrate and play music. This is what we are using in our room for the first couple weeks instead of purchasing a seperate bassinet. Essentially, yes you could you use the one you chose for the same thing! I think it's personal preferance.

  • All of my friends who have pack n plays love them.  Especially if they are going to visit a family member or friend overnight, it folds up so easily and just pops in the car.  My SIL also used it as a changing table for their downstairs, and it worked great.

I do believe the pack n' play above is the one we're getting as well. We like the infant sleeper option too.

We haven't picked one yet, but we will be getting one with the sleeper option as well because I do not want to spend money for a bassinet that will not be used long and this will allow us to keep the baby in our room in the beginning.

This is the one on our list as well. I've had many friends recommend the Pack and Play as an alterative to bassinets when the baby is sleeping in your room for the first few months.

  • I honestly didn't even know you could still buy a regular playpen - all I ever see is Pack n' Plays!  We were never able to use the "playpen" feature for our nephew, except for actual sleep. He would scream his head off when he was in there - was fine in an exersaucer, or the walker I bought to use at my house and took the wheels off of so he couldn't actually go anywhere in it (for when I was cooking/he was eating/had to be contained a couple minutes), but he wouldn't stand for being in the pack n' play for one minute!

  • We dont have much space in our bedroom, so instead of a bassinet I think we will be using the Fisher Price Rock n Play Sleeper for the first little while.

We dont have room for a pack n play either, so I just dont know if I will use the extras
