Anybody see this on GMA this morning? It was on the ticker at the bottom.

Pretty inconclusive findings but interesting. I've never dealt with any food allergies in my family (thank goodness!) but know many who have. Sounds like a crapshoot to me!
Re: New Peanut Allergy Findings
When my sister was pregnant last year her doctor gave her a long list of foods she could eat include strawberries and peanuts for fear she would pass on an allergy to the baby. I gave it a big ole side eye. Now her pediatrician tells her not to give her 9 month old any peanut butter or strawberries until she's 3 for fear of giving her an allergy. 3! We ate PB&J from the time that we had teeth.
I've been eating PB&J sandwiches for breakfast in the last week because it's the only thing that settles my stomach in the morning.
I think allergies are either a crap shoot or the failure to expose kids to the "triggers" at an age when their bodies are developing and learning how to process different types of food.

There is absolutely no way to tell if you will pass on an allergy or not. I have been to many allergists and even sat crying begging for advice on how to not pass on (the mother carries the allergies) any allergies to any more of our children.
So, I mean this in the nicest way possible...I just feel so strongly about this because I am living this and it breaks my heart every single day that my son cannot even play with other kids for fear he could go anaphylactic.
Allergies are NOT just a "crap shoot" or a "failure to expose to triggers while their bodies are developing". If you have never dealt with allergies or have never done research on them please stop giving such an opinion to them.
My poor 2 yr old has such severe food allergies (dairy, eggs, peanuts, treenuts and fish) and it wasn't because I didn't want him to be exposed to triggers while he was developing. He had a pancake at 9 months and almost lost his life. My child can't even TOUCH a drop of milk without breaking out in hives. He can't even get kissed after drinking coffee or else he breaks out in hives for example. My DH doesn't have foodallergies and neither do I. (just environmental allergies)
So please, get educated before you throw your opinion out there. I hope and pray people don't ever have to go through something like this.
Yeeeaahhh... I think it's a crapshoot. My mom was addicted to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups when she was pregnant with me. No problems there. I LOVE peanut butter. I ate loads of it while pregnant with DS. He has no allergy to it. We introduced it to him after he turned one.
I think there is something going on that is causing all these new food allergies, but I don't believe eating those foods during pregnancy is it.
I'm so sorry your son has such severe allergies. However, your post DOES make it sound like allergies are a crapshoot. You said that you nor your husband have food allergies, but your son does. It just sounds like bad luck, unfortunately.
And I know my own mom ate peanuts and peanut butter in pregnancy and I'm certainly addicted to the stuff without problem. The article mentioned the allergies could go both ways: Eating peanuts could help prevent peanut allergies in your child or cause them. Sounds like a crapshoot to me.
I do feel terrible for kids with food allergies. It is so limiting and must be incredibly difficult to manage.
Granted, if my child has to have allergies of some sort, I guess I'd rather it be to peanut butter than my cats. I'd hate to give my cats away...
This. I don't have kids w/allergies and pray I never do. I have severe allergies though and it sucks royally. I can't imagine sending a small child out into the world w/these issues.

Really? You'd rather your child be at risk for a life-threatening reaction? And one which you cannot control since so many kids eat peanuts & peanut butter all the time? I love my pets but that's just crazy to me...
I'm not even going to get into this about it being a "crap shoot" and "bad luck" I was heated before and apparently didn't get all that I needed to say out there so my post did make it sort of seem that way. I should have just stayed away from this post seeing that I am so hurt by allergies.
But as I said before, get educated before you start making opinions on allergies. Clearly you have NO clue from saying what you said about peanut allergies and your cats.
