sleep issues and sleep training at 21 months??

Now that DD2 is here I see what a problem I have created with our sleep routine.  I co-slept with DD until recently.  Now she is in her own room in a big girl bed which she is fine with.  However I always laid down with DD1 to go to sleep and everytime she wakes at night I would go and lay down with her again.  Well there are several problems with this (its causing marital issues and severe sleep deprivation between her and the nb).  I was always very much against CIO but I dont know what else to do at this point.  Has anyone tried some type of sleep training at this age?  I would like to ideally put her in bed, kiss her goodnight and leave the room...is it possible?  Have I completely screwed her sleep routine up?  Not to mention that twice this week she has woken up at 2am and stayed up till 6am.  Thanks for your ideas...

Re: sleep issues and sleep training at 21 months??

  • My DD is 14 months and we are realizing that we have created a monster as well when it comes to sleep.  She does not fall asleep on her own except at nap time and that is only after crying for 10 min or so.  She still takes a nighttime bottle but it's only water so we are working on eliminating that.  I think CIO is our only option for at night.  I have 7 weeks until DS gets here and she has to be able to do it by then.  It's hard but so far it's not as terrible as I thought.  She will fall asleep on her own at naptime so she knows how!!  GL and I hope you get some sleep soon!!
