So last week we get a letter in the mail from our homestudy agency (they did our homestudy and are doing our post-placement visits, while we have the agency out of state that we did placement through) stating that they are going out of business on January 31st and we will be the last family to have the "honor" of using their services. I about flipped out.
We were due for our second, and last, visit the second week of October and when I hadn't heard from our social worker, I contacted her. She told me she was busy and taking vacation for 3 weeks so she couldn't come until November. Once she finishes her report, we have to send them to our placement agency and only then will they send the consent form to our attorney so he can file our finalization papers. Once that happens we have to wait 90 days to finalize. Basically, due to our HS agency not staying on schedule, there is no way we will finalize before January 31st. It's not possible.
I raised my concerns to the HS agency and she said she didn't know what I was talking about with 90 day waiting period and gave me the timetable we used for H. I wrote back and explained again. She said she understood but that they would be done with all our papers by Jan 31st. I asked her if she didn't think it would be a problem that the our HS agency was no longer in existence when the court goes to do our finalization in February.
Next email I get, says that the State has advised them to keep their license for another year. That says to me that my concerns were founded. While I'm happy to have resolved this, it just upsets me that the professionals I'm trusting didn't think of that. I would not have been pleased if February came and we found out we had to start all over with visits and paperwork.
Re: Agency going out of business before finalization vent
That's awful! I'm praying it all get resolved before it becomes a bigger problem for you. If you know any attorneys well versed in adoption law, it might be worth it to discuss this with them in case the worst happens.
I'm really hoping and praying it doesn't come to that!
