VBAC

Labor question

A girl I work with is attempting a VBAC in a month or two and mentioned she thought about using her breast pump to see if that would induce her labor as most OB's don't induce for vbac's nor let you go late... Thought on the idea of pumping starting around 38 weeks?

Re: Labor question

  • I wouldn't do it. I'd resort to less invasive means of bring on labor like walking, sex, and all the others that I'm forgetting at this point. VBAC or not, I wouldn't try to bring on labor by pumping.

  • Ouch?  I personally wouldn't do it at 38 weeks.  I'll very possibly be considering acupuncture (39+ weeks for this one), sex, walking, maybe Evening Primrose Oil closer to that time, but other than what DH is interested in trying out, probably wouldn't bring the pump out quite yet.

  • I tried the pump at close to 40 weeks last time. It did give me BH, but I also was getting a lot of colostrum out and it was freaking me out, so I stopped. I was worried that I would waste the good stuff or something!

Anyhow, you can have DH "play" around with them, and that often helps. I also won't be trying anything until really like, 39+ weeks.

And yes, my doctor will not induce me for a VBAC either, as it's not really safe to use pit.

  • Your Dr. should be able to induce you with a Foley Bulb. You just cannot use prostaglandins to induce. I might try the pump, but I would want to do a ton more research first. So I don't have an educated opinion on the topic.
