Babies: 6 - 9 Months

CIO question??

do you let LO CIO to fall asleep on their own and soothe themself (for them to stop fighting their sleep?) or if they wake up multiple times a night for no reason, and just need to be put back down?

My LO fights sleep like no other and you can tell shes exhausted and I just stay there holding her taking turns with DF trying to soothe her but we do it and DF said letting her CIO but I don't know if your supposed to let them if they are fighting sleep?

Re: CIO question??

  • I don't have it in me to CIO yet. Matthew fights sleep every night. He pinches whomever is holding him. He kicks non-stop. He screams. I just hold him, wrap him in a blanket, give him a binky and make shushing sounds. Some nights it takes 2 minutes and other nights it takes 30 minutes to work.

  • We CIOd because Claire was spending more time fighting sleep than actually sleeping.  She is a much happier baby now, even in the day.  She goes to sleep on her own and stays asleep all night.
  • Thats what we do except the blanket she HATES being wrapped in anything or anythiing around her lol =[ Im just glad once shes asleep she STTN lol

This sounds like our nights lately - but he uses his thumb and flails too. It is exhausting. It has taken 1-2 hours to get him to sleep for the past couple of weeks. Between his first cold and constant teeth coming in - his sleep schedule is all over the place.

This exactly, we just started a few days ago and it has worked for us. DD only cries for a few minutes before she falls asleep and tonight she didn't cry at all!

  • Thanks Ladies, we MIGHT consider it, I just feel bad because she's so tired and I hate seeing her fight sleep like she does!

if once she's asleep she STTN I would wait to do sleep training. I made a previous post about this but we're doing sleep training now- but he wakes up ALL-NIGHT-LONG. Even if he woke up once or twice a night, we wouldnt bother with sleep training for a while. but in your case, it seems like its just going down, so I would just try and establish a different bedtime routine before trying CIO.

    Thats what I was thinking,

I read about CIO from different sites and they say different things, only CIO if they wake up multiple times a night and others say if they cant fall asleep on their own so I was confused. Thanks !

The thrashing around is the worst. I have gotten poked in the eye, scratched and punched. The worst part is that he is screaming. He does not cry as there are no tears. He is just throwing a temper tantrum. If I put him in the crib he will throw his binky, his blanket and he has even taken off his pants. He kicks the rails of the crib during his little temper tantrum. It is so much fun. Tongue Tied

Sorry - I was dealing with finally getting LO down. He is such a good baby so I don't know where it is coming from but getting him down is awful. He has his eyes closed too and just thrashes. He pinches / scratches us too and thinks I am playing when I tell him no and that it hurts. No tears normally either. He starts screaming about 20 minutes into it. We give up sometimes and try the swing (which he is almost to big for) - but that doesn't help. We try feeding him more - because I am always afraid he didn't eat enough and that's why he won't sleep. We try ibuprofen because we think he is pain. But tapping and rocking sometimes works but then when we lay him down, it starts alllll over again. I am exhausted since we go thru at least a 45 minute fight for a nap too.

Aw Im SO SORRY =/ have you tried letting him cry in time intervals? Are you sure he's tired? I give LO her oatmeal then bathe when I see her starting to rub her eyes and then when I put her down her eyes close then she fights it.. =/
