Mesh feeder fail. Any advice?

DS managed to get banana all over his tray, clothes, forehead, and hair...but only a tiny bit in his mouth when I held the feeder to his lips. Is there anything I can do, or are some babies just not into the mesh feeders?

Just keep offering it to your DS.  The first few times, DS didn't get much out of it, but now he sucks on it ferociously.

I've only tried it once with DS but when I did, he hated it. He cried!

This. The first couple times DS just smashed it around and spit it out when I tried to put it in his mouth (just to show him there was food in it). What did you put in it? I found that once I put a piece of peach in it, which was much juicier than the avocado I had tried before, he got the hang of it and liked it more. Since then, I have put in apple, avocado, watermelon and green beans and there's never anything left but skin and pulp.

My DD doesn't like the mesh feeder.  I have given it to her multiple times with different items in them and she would rather play with it and doesn't put it in her mouth.
