Babies: 6 - 9 Months

random thoughts about Halloween...

1- Adults SHOULD NOT take candy for themselves. Seriously. A dad (granted, fully dressed up as Cat in the Hat) took candy for himself and put it in his own bag. I was too confused to say anything!

2- Saying "Trick or Treat" is part of the deal. I refuse to give candy if kids don't say it.

3- Manners are seriously lacking. I might dress up in a sandwich board next year that says, "You: Trick or treat. Me: Here you go. You: Thanks! Me: You're welcome. You: Happy Halloween!"

I'm just bitter because people seriously just walk by our house...I always stopped at every house as a kid. We're nice. We have cute dogs and awesome jackolanterns...what gives?

Re: random thoughts about Halloween...

  • I agree with your points, especially about adults taking candy.

But your last sentence made me LOL. Maybe they skip your house because you are lecturing kids on halloween etiquette ;)

  • Maybe, but I'm nice about it and we have good candy. All I say is, "C'mon! You have to say it!" :)
  • ITA. When I was little my mom made me and my brother always say both "thank you" and "Happy Halloween" when we went trick or treating. I will be doing the same when DD is older.

  • One time my little brother clammed up and wouldn't say thank you, so my mom made him give the candy back.  LOL
  • I agree too.  This is why we didn't go trick or treating with DS even though my family asked.  I'm thinking...he can't eat it, so I'll just look like a weirdo asking for free candy from strangers.

And kids nowadays are so rude in general!

  • Yeah. When I was teaching I had a rule that if you got something and didn't say thank you within 3 seconds you gave the thing back, whatever it was. I'm mean like that.
  • Ya know, I agree with every point but the adult one.  When I was in middle school, one of my friends had back surgery where she was bedridden for months.  When Halloween came around, her mom dressed up and hit the houses so she wouldn't feel left out.

Now, if the adult is just going to go home and eat the candy themselves, that's another story, but there are cases where adults might be trick or treating for a child that cannot do it themselves.

eh, call me heartless, but IMO middle school is a grey area for trick or treating anyway.

BUT, i wouldn't judge a mom who did that. I would hope she would explain to the people though. Thats what I would do (or go buy my kid candyand tell her I went t or ting ;)   )

  • I agree, when I passed out candy at my parents I would make kids say trick or treat.  Most just stood there staring at me like they had no clue!!  And to not say thank you for free candy is just rude!  When DD gets older she will definitely have the manners for trick or treat etiquette.  :-)  Your piglet is so stinkin cute!

  • I wish I had the balls to tell every adult trick or treating to buy their own d@mn candy.

  • Next year there will be a sign out side my house, NO COSTUME = NO CANDY!
