Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Solids frustration

My little guy is almost 6 months....will be on 11/11.  He is not even interested at all in solids....keeps spitting them out.  Thought he didn't like apple sauce (real applesauce and baby food applesauce since I know they have different textures) so I have tried bananas (real ones I mush), jarred sweet potatoes and rice cereal (with formula and tried another time with apple juice).  I know he has a milk allergy (formula gave him hives/rash) and he has eczema so I'm trying to be really cautious about trying new things but he has zero interest.

I'm not sure if he still has the tongue thrust or not...he does seem to taste/swallow some but I have to trick him into opening his mouth, shove the spoon in and then he spits it back out.

  • Don't fell too bad and don't rush it.. LO is 8 months and we are still trying to introduce (or re-introduce after he has been sick for a while) and right now all he will eat is cheerios

  • We didn't even start purees until after 6 mo - so no rush. I read somewhere that it takes multiple times for LO to develop a preference for a food. Maybe give it a break for a week or so & then try again?

  • If he's not interested, let him wait and just keep offering. They are supposed to get the bulk of their nutrition from BM or formula for the first year anyway. Also, have you tried letting him feed himself? Some kids prefer to have the control. You can try with soft foods like squash or sweet potato or well-steamed veggies.
