I was on FB last night a friend posted that she was glad trick or treating was finished. I was like, Ummmmmm it's the 30th. She said the whole city had decided to do it on Saturday instead of Sunday. Silly me, I thought it was because of school the next day, not because it is the Lord's day.

I do think it should be celebrated on the 31st, but at the same time I'm glad. Around here, EVERYTHING is closed on Sunday. While annoying, it's a guaranteed day off for me. This year I get the day after Christmas off just because it falls on a Sunday! IMO, these Mormons can have their Sundays if I get these days off!

I personally think it's ridiculous not to celebrate it on the 31st; however my IL's all think it's horrible. That are actually hiding in their basements tonight! The kids don't know any better so why punish them?
Although I do wish the 31st fell on a friday or saturday every year (When will it be on a friday again?) I think halloween should be celebrated on the 31st every year.. It's just a little lame when it is on sun-thurs

Forehead slap...I was wondering why so many people made references to trick-or-treating last night. I actually checked my calendar, to make sure I hadn't made a mistake!
"Cool as Hell like e-mail, but still timeless like a letter."
Our city always has trick or treat the last Sunday of the month or something like that. I don't get it, but then they also have fireworks on July 3rd so who knows.

DH's family is Mormon... hence why they are hiding in their basements and ignoring the door.
But that's not even what I'm talking about. I'm saying that changing the day JUST because it falls on a Sunday is stupid. Maybe we should make Halloween like Labor Day, have it fall on the last Saturday of October. But these bible boosters (please don't take offense, as I am a Christian myself) need to get over themselves and quit changing things that have no purpose. There are bigger issues out there.

I chose option one. However, as a parent of a school aged child, I've wished that they would move ToT'ing to a weekend night when it falls on a school night.

I don't really care. Where I live now, Halloween is always done on the 31st no matter what day it is -- but when I was growing up in Ohio, sometimes places would do it on the closest Saturday night to Halloween.
It really didn't make a difference, except then you didn't have kids out on school nights when Halloween is on a non-Friday-or-Saturday. I can see why people do it that way.

meh, i'm southern baptist, and have no issue with it on sundays.
people will always try to turn the most random things into a religous or political mess.

I think its so weird when cities celebrate on a different day. H's hometown does that. None of the places I've lived have every done that.
I also think its lame when cities set specific hours. Where we live now does that (5-7). Half the fun growing up was waiting until it was dark!
I had no idea this was even an issue! We are a huge ToTing neighborhood, and no one ever mentioned it.

I agree. (I am not southern baptist, but I agree with your sentiment).
