If you have one and would like to please share. I will have to get one with my next pregnancy and am trying to find all the knowledge I can about them.
I had to have one in May, at 17 weeks, my cervix was funneling and had gotten down to 1.8.... Since then, I was on progesterone suppositories, pelvic rest and visits every 2 weeks. Then every week once I hit 23 weeks.
I had my cerclage removed at 36w, 1d. I'm 38 weeks now, and she's still in there baking! My next check up isn't until Tuesday, and I'm hoping for some progress! Last week, I was at 1cm, 75% effaced, at 37 weeks.
I'm on my 3rd cerclage. The first was emergency, my cervix had completely thinned out at 15 weeks. I think that one was meant to miscarry because we lost her 5 days later. The second was put in at 12 weeks, but almost 4 weeks later my water broke and we lost him too. We found out that I have a clotting disorder that caused me to lose #2. So now with this one, got my cerclage at 13 weeks, I've been on Lovenox from the beginning and started progesterone shots at 14 weeks once a week. I get weekly u/s and everything looks great.
For me the cerclages aren't bad at all, my dr's office is in the hospital so he does them in the OR with and epidural, same thing when I get them out. I have a little cramping and bleeding for a few days afterwards and then everything goes back to normal.
It seems like they save a lot of pregnancies, so I'm happy to have them. Good luck to you.
I lost my first pregnancy at 16 weeks so, the second time around my Dr. recommended cervical length checks beginning at that point. I had bi-weekly CL checks from week 16-36. Initially my cervical length was great, measuring 4cm. However within 4 weeks it had thinned to 2 cm. So, the cerclage was placed at week 20. It remained in place until it was removed at week 36. I am 38 w 5 d today!
In addition to having the cerclage I also received weekly progesterone injections from week 16-36 and was on bedrest from week 25-now. The bedrest was the result of continued CL shrinkage to 1.3cm. My cervix seemed to stabilize at that length & never measured shorter/longer.
I asked my Dr. what she thought made the difference is maintaining this pregnancy. She truly believes the difference was the progesterone shots & remains on the fence regarding the effectiveness of the cerclage and bedrest. I believe that without any one of the 3 measures i'd have lost the pregnancy.
I lost my first baby at 4 months due to IC. So, my next pregnancy I had a cerclage put in at 12 weeks as a preventative measure. Everything went great! I had it out at 37 weeks on a Monday evening and went into labor first thing Friday morning! Apparently that was what I needed to keep our baby cooking! Good luck!
I had an emergency cerclage at 20 we, 5 days. I was put on strict bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. I made it until 35W, 5 days. I know the cerclage saved my pregnancy. I could have made it longer than 35W, 5days, but had an infection and they went on and let me deliver. GOOD LUCK!
i had an emergency cerclage put in in may with my last pregnancy at 17 weeks. (when they found me dilated to a 4 with water bulging). I was in the hospitial "for the remainder of the pregnancy" - but 2 weeks later i got an infection and my water broke.
i'm pregnant again - and just had a preventative cerclage put in on friday. we are really praying this one holds this baby in! and for NO infection!

We went a little more drastic route and went with a permanent transabdominal cerclage. The success rate is incredibly high - 95% plus. It can be placed up to 11 weeks in pregnancy. I have tons of info in my blog (link in siggy).

Not sure how detailed you want the story but I lost my first baby at 22wks due to an IC. I got a cerclage this time at 14wks and I started getting p17 shots at 16 wks. The procedure wasn't to bad, they gave me a spinal and then your legs were up in the air for like 10 minutes. Thats the worst part actually!!! So now I'm 19 wks, going to the doc every week for the first month after I received the cerclage, now I think i'm back to 2 wks. I'll find out tomorrow. No bedrest for me, but I'm currently laid off so I don't do anything anyways! If you have any questions please let me know.
I had a loss at 18 weeks due to incompetent cervix. After doing much research I decided to have the transabdominal cerclage placed at 11 weeks pregnant. It's permanent so I will require a c-section. It has a 97% success rate, compared to the 60-70% success rate of the transvaginal cerclage (the kind that is removed around 36 weeks, done as either a rescue or preventative). After the cerclage was placed I had an ultrasound done to show me where it is. It's placed at the top of the cervix so it doesn't allow for any shortening, funneling, effacing, etc. The dr showed me that the bottom part of my cervix is already open so if I would have gotten the transvaginal cerclage it most likely would have failed and I would have another late loss. I'm so glad I decided to get the abdominal one!
