Frets over the tree

What are you ladies going to do to keep LO's away from the tree???? It's gonna be SO enticing to them!! Eeeeek! Hmm

Re: Frets over the tree

  • I'm considering buying a train to put around the tree, so if anything he'll get the train not the tree.

  • My nice ornaments go up high. I bought some non breakable bulbs for the lower part when my older son was little. We also have a train that my husband plans on turning on anytime Jett gets near the tree. I see that scaring him all of twice before he gets over it.
  • When DD#1 and DS were younger we lived in a different house where we put the tree in the living room (they never really played in there because their toys were in the family room) so it was easy to control for small amounts of time we were actually in the living room.

In our current house, the tree goes in the living room but that is where we spend our time in the evenings, reading, etc.  We have a toy room but that is where most of the "big kid" toys are (small parts, etc) so DD#2's toys are in the living room and she is in it all day.

I work in HR for a major retailer and this is our crazy time of year.  The tree is up by Thanksgiving or I don't have time to help with decorating.  So, that is a LONG time to corral a baby away.  We have shatterproof ornaments that go lower and match our glass ones that go higher.  We just have to watch her constantly when she is in there.

We will have one or two more Christmases like this, since I am currently expecting #4 and then we will hopefully be past that stage!

  • We have our tree in the 'sitting room' and not the living room.  We spend most of our time in the living room so it won't be too much of a temptation for baby J.  I guess just 100% supervision or put those gate corrals around it, not the most attractive thing, but if you want to protect your tree & baby, it will only be for a couple of christmas seasons.

  • We are actually just going to buy a four foot tree. and set it up on a table so that DS can't get to it. DH and I both agree that it should work, we don't have to buy a tree skirt, and since it's a smaller tree, less money on new decorations! Win win!
  • I'm putting a baby gate around it this year.
