Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ugh, my friggin cat.

When we first moved here, my cat had a terrible time adjusting. He peed on our mattress every night for over a month. I took him to the vet four times and all they could tell me was it's behavioral. We added two more litterboxes in our apartment and got him some Feliway. That did the trick for a long time- obv we bought a new mattress.

Well, for the first time in two years, he peed on our bed tonight. The litterboxes are clean, yes he was out of food but IMO that doesn't deserve a peed on bed!

I'm fuming right now! I'm friggin tired and I have to wait for the mattress to dry before we can go to bed. Does anyone have any fool proof ways to get this smell out? I am furious that he peed on our new mattress.

Re: Ugh, my friggin cat.

  • That sucks so bad! I'm sorry!

Go get some of this stuff:

It rocks my world! Seriously, DH says I'm part bloodhound because I've got such an over sensitive sense of smell and this stuff completely gets rid of the stench!

    Good luck!

  • If you go to one of those like janitorial cleaning places, where they sell the heavy duty stuff, there is stuff called active. IT WORKS WONDERS! We had a cat who absolutely LOVED peeing on things. It was her hobby, her lifes goal. The ONLY thing that we found to get it out for good, was the active. It comes in one of those big handle jugs. Hope that helps.

  • When we got a new dog my cat did that to our bathroom rug! Do you think maybe febreeze will take the smell out? We had to lock our cat in our basement during the day for a few days until she stopped having accidents (well, more like on purposes bc she was completely house broken for YEARS prior to getting our new dog) Anyway sorry I'm not much help. GL!

ETA: Her litter box is in the basement. Also, I just remember DH's mom has some sort of potion she mixed up that's supposed to take bad smells out of anything. It's vinegar and water but not a lot of vinegar. You spray it on the mattress, then dab it with a towel, and do it again. But you may want to spray something on it after to take the vinegar smell away. Supposedly vinegar cancels out whatever smell you're trying to get rid of. MIL swears on this stuff. HTH!

  • I don't know about the smell, but I'd suggest a nice waterproof matress pad.  The good one's are nice and comfy as well as completly waterproof.  It'd so be worth it, you wouldn't have to risk your new mattress.

    Bad Kitty!

Well, we do have a pad over the mattress (not waterproof, but thick) and that soaked up a lot of the mess. If I can get the smell out, I'm DEFINITELY getting a waterproof one! I can't believe I trusted him!

  • Dude, I'd have to shave Seuss if he started peeing on my bed!  Honestly, once a cat goes dirty, its really hard to fix the problem.  But if you're like me and you just love your kitty and can't part with him, then I suggest you cover your mattress with a waterproof covering.  And I would keep my bedroom door shut.

So Basically, your cat was hungry didn't have any food so he decided to give you the middle claw tonight?  My sister had a cat like that.

In college I had a long-haired tortishell (sp?) cat that I got professionally shaved.  It was the funniest freakin thing.  She'd get the lion kid.  No joke.  Puffy tail end and all.

Elmoali has persians.   Whenever she gets them shaved its like my fav to go and visit....hehe.  The first time she shaved her boy cat he was embarrassed!  ahaha!

  • Odorzout will get the odor out of anything.  It is totally organic.  You could eat the stuff if you wanted to, but it works like a miracle.

You just sprinkle it on the spot and vacuum it up. Repeat until the smell is out. (usually twice.)
