Babies: 6 - 9 Months

F/U to my dumb question

Since it was pointed out that I didn't respond to everyone's comments.  Sorry, I was feeding Asher, and putting him to bed.  Hes sleeping now, so heres the follow up.

My sister called, the nurse told her that it sounds like she might be leaking fluid and that she should come in.  Shes in there now, they are doing an u/s and a amniotic test, and told her that there is a possibility that she could be having her section tonight. (Pending the amniotic strip test thing and her fluid levels)

My sister is only 35 weeks along...which I know is not the end of the world, but if she does have her baby tonight there is a chance that the baby could be smaller and have to stay a while.  So if you could toss some thoughs our way tonight that would be great.

Re: F/U to my dumb question

  • Lots of T&P's to you guys! I hope the baby can stay cozy a little while longer.

My Landon was born at 35w 4d. He only weighed 3lb 13oz, but he only stayed in the hospital 6 days, and only 1 hour of that time was in special care. Bitty babies can be incredibly healthy!! Hope everything goes well and she can bake a little longer!

ETA: And the only reason he had to stay longer than a tern baby is because they wanted him to gain up to 4 pounds, which he did a lot quicker than they thought he would!

Hehe...this is what I was thinking, but apparently I've offended people and I don't like to be rude, offensive, or mean on here.

Thank you for sharing, I'm going to tell her this, because I know shes a little worried right now

  • Sending some thoughts!!!

DD was born at 33w5d, was 5 lbs 5 oz and had a 9 day NICU stay with the last few days only because of her bili levels.  35w is not bad...at least she won't have to worry about the steroid shots.  GL to your sister!

  • I had amniotic issues for the whole end of my pregnancy and the day before I deliverd Livy everyone thought my bad had broken.  It hadn't though, they think I had an extra bubble on my sac of fluid.  Let your sil know that it could be a lot of things and not to panic.  Also, Livy stopped growing around 32wks and look how tough she is!!  Keep the faith and lots of t&p's!!
  • DS was born at 35 wks and 5 days.  He was a whopping 7 lbs and only stayed in the NICU for 3 days.  He was able to come home with us from the hospital.  Thoughts and prayers to your sister!!  I'm sure her LO will be just fine!

I remember the end of your pregnancy well!  It mocked mine in so many ways.  Asher and Livy stopped growing  the same week and then were born on the same day.  Both were 6lbs and change.  They were meant to be!

I'm passing along all positive stories though.  She knows its not the worst case scenario...but as moms we worry.

Isn't it weird how many things are the same with our babies?  IUGR date, birth date, close weight, allergy issues, reflux....

  • Oh and let your sil know that my doc gave me the thumbs up to deliver Livy at 34wks.  It's amazing how strong babies are even that early on.  But...I hope that she doesn't have to deliver yet!  Cook baby cook!

Because they are soul mates :  )

  • Missed your orignal post, but sending good thoughts to your sister.

  • I was leaking fluid and the strip test was inconclusive.  It turned out that I had a high water amniotic sac leak.  We only found that out later after they had sent me home.  Luckily I went into labor and had Mel 40 hours later, and there was no infection. Needless to say my OB was p!ssed at the on call doc who sent me home.

I hope she gets to cook a bit longer, but 35 weeks is pretty good.  I'm sending her positive thoughts.

  • just wanted to add to what other posters were saying... my dd was born at 35w5d and was perfectly healthy. she was 6 pounds even, spent no time in the nicu and came home with us when i was discharged. i know everyone is different, but 35 weeks isn't too bad. good luck to her :-)
