Bamboo Inserts

Just got a bunch of bamboo inserts with some dipes and I'm excited to try them out.  They seem so thin, though - anyone have any experience with them?  Do you use just the bamboo, or bamboo paired with something else?  It just seems like they won't hold anything!  (They're Blueberry bamboo inserts, if that helps)

Re: Bamboo Inserts

  • I've only used them in conjunction with my hemp inserts. I'm too afraid to put them by themselves because of how thin they seem. Just make sure you prep them so they'll be at their most absorbent.

  • I have Blueberry bamboo inserts... I got them from the clearance store, but I think they are the same as the ones that are used in Weehuggers.

They are thin but super absorbent! I have the small size and the large size. The small size is 5" wide x 28" long, 2 layers of bamboo, but you fold it in half to get 4 layers. It is plenty absorbent enough for daytime use for DS, and soooooooooo trim!

The large size is 5.5" wide x 32" long, 3 layers of bamboo, so again, you fold it to get 6 layers. This is what I now use almost exclusively in DS's pockets, and they hold up great! Overnight, I do put an extra hemp insert in, because he does sometimes leak without it. During the day, bamboo on its own does just fine. I've left him in it for 3 hours or so, and the insert is not even soaked.

I consider the large size to be pretty similar in absorbency to a standard large/one-size microfiber insert, if that helps at all.

Oh, and Blueberry bamboo comes pre-prepped Smile

I'm not so sure about that...I have a ton of BB bamboo inserts and after washing about 5-8 times they are much more absorbent. And I use them by themselves, they are my favorite inserts.

    Here are the wash instructions...

"Before using:  wash and dry once in hot or warm water prior to first use.  This causes the fibers to shrink, fluff up and become more absorbent.  It is not necessary to wash more than once before using for the first time.  The inserts will shrink and get thicker with the first few washes.  This shrinkage has been allowed for when designing the inserts."

Most pre-prepped natural fibers do get more absorbent during the first few washes, but point being, you don't have to wash a zillion times before using.
