shopping with LO

What do you do with LO when you go to the store alone?  I'll be honest, most of the time either DH or I willstay home with DS while the other goes to the store.  If we do go together, we take turns holding DS.

DH is gone for a work conference, and today I ventured out for my first grocery shopping trip alone with LO since we've quit using the Graco Snugride.  I put a shopping cart cover on, and off we went.  I probably never would have bought one, but my mom got it for me, so I thought I'd try it out.  It was a little bit of a pain to put on, but it seemed like it was probably more comfortable for DS to sit on something soft than the metal seat.  I'm curious what you ladies do with your LOs when at the store alone with LO.  Do you do something different than when both of you are there?

Re: shopping with LO

  • I have a few different carriers but my favorite for needing both hands is my Pikkolo and I put him on my back. He loves it and will talk, flirt with the ladies he sees and is super happy and I honestly have no restrictions at all. I can't imagine not having it!

  • Sometimes LO insists on making me carry him while pushing the cart when he is in a super clingy mood - but he is starting to enjoy being in the cart with the cover more. He likes that he can look around.

  • She is still in her infant seat so if she looks content in there, I will just leave her be.  If she's in a great mood, which is rare, I put her in the cart with the cart cover.  I will usually end up holding her and pushing the cart one-handed.  The big grocery trips I do alone.

  • When I go do the big shopping trips I have started to put Gianna in the cart with blankets surrounding her. She doesn't last the whole time usually so I bring the carrier and wear her when she gets grumpy and she lasts for the rest of the trip. If I'm going to Walmart or something I just put her carseat in the stroller and I can fit everything in the bottom of the stroller.

I also use the Pikkolo - DS loves it.
  • Most of the time he is in my ring sling but I am trying to get him to like the cart... the last two times he went in the cart fine without a cover...

  • I don't have a cover so she sits in the cart without one.  I also basically only do shopping by myself with my baby because I do a whole day trip to town twice a month and my husband is always at work, so I have no choice but to bring the baby.  We only just moved her to the convertible, so until now if she was sleeping or something I would bring the infant seat, but now I'll bring a carrier if she is sleepy and then she'll just go on that.
