Cloth Diapering

CDing internationally

I'm going on vacation at Christmas to the Dominican Republic.  MH is already trying to talk me into disposables while we are there.

Do you think cloth diapers take up much more room than disposables in my suitcase?

I'm in a hotel.  Even if I take my detergent, I don't think I can trust the staff to wash with the multiple rinses.  Should I take them anyway and try and find a laundromat?

What would the cloth diapering board do?

  • I would do disposables, no question.
  • I would probably do disposables too.  And you don't even need to pack them - I would head to a grocery store when you arrive and buy them there.  Probably cheaper and you don't have to worry about room.

    I think that's where I'm leaning.

Actually disposable diapers are outrageously priced over there.  But yeah, I think I'm going to use disposables.

  • When I travel, I do cloth if I have access to laundry facilities.  If I don't, I use disposables.  In your case, I would do disposables.  I definitely wouldn't trust anyone else to wash my diapers (except my mom, who knows the routine and does a great job).

  • Maybe you can try the space bag to reduce the amount of space it uses?  I am going to try it when I travel for Christmas.  If I have access to laundry facilities, inc. laundry mats, I will use CDs.  My friend used sposies on vacation last month, and she said she hated it, that sposies are "so gross" and that she will hunt down a laundry mat the next time she travels.
  • I would use disposables, no hesitation.

  • Go disposable, for sure. And pack them with you, as you know they're very expensive in the islands. (And it can be hard to find "familiar" brands.) We like 7th generation...
