cellars/basement? This is a tough one. I've used both, but here most people don't have a cellar/basement. I think typically in the south, a cellar isn't always attached to the house, whereas a basement is the foundation of a house.

gas/petrol? If I had to pick, gas... though we usually say fuel because DH used to have a diesel truck.
