Baby Names

It came to me in a dream...

We have been having the hardest time naming this child, and I've just been waiting for some magical intervention to name him for us.  So last night I had one of those vivid pregnancy dreams (I gave birth to a cat/human baby, if you must know), and we called him Sullivan.  I have no idea where this came from - haven't even looked at or considered the name before.  But we love irish names and 3-syllable names.

So, Sullivan.  What do you think?

Re: It came to me in a dream...

  • Last name of a girl I dislike.  Negative association for me.  And I don't really like the whole "last name as first name" trend.

  • I think of it as a last name and I'm over "the lets pick some random last name and use it as first name trend."

UNLESS it actually is a family name, but even then I'm over it, but at least it would make more sense then.

I love Sullivan. If DH hadn't shot it down, it would totally top my list. I think it's a very cool, timeless, masculine name.

  • There are about 1 million sullivans in this country!
  • I like it. It does sound like a last name but I don't think that would change my mind about using it.

Not sure what you're getting at. Are you saying it's too popular because it's a common surname, that it should only be a surname, or something else?

  • I'm usually not a fan of last name as first name either, but this one is not too bad.

  • Reminds me too much of Sully from Monsters Inc.

  • I love it...and so does my mom. That's probably why my family's 12 year old golden retriever is named Sullivan.

  • I really like it and I love the story behind it. I had a friend who had a dream the night before she got a bfp.  There were angels in it and they called her baby boy Israel.  He was indeed a boy and she name him Israel. I thought it was really incredible.

  • I think it is an awesome last name.  If it is a family name I think it would make a great middle name.

  • To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the last name as first name trend. But it doesn't matter what abybody else likes, its about what you like. And that would be a cool story about how you came up with a name. I love names with stories! Plus, I'm super excited that you're picking out names! Yay! February's coming up fast! :)

  • I like it a lot.  :-)  When I was in college, before I was even thinking of TTC, I had a dream that I had a daughter named Lillian.  I don't know if we'll have a girl this time around, but my husband and I have decided on the name Lillian if we do.  It's stuck with me all this time and it turns out he likes it too!!
