Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyone else scared to death of the time change coming up? :/

DD just will NOT stay up past 7:30. She hits a wall at 7:25 and just starts crying until we give her a bottle and put her to bed. So moving back her bedtime isn't going to be easy. Considering that and that she gets up around 5:30 every morning I'm scared to death of the time change in another few weeks. I mean 5:30 am is technically then going to be 4:30 am since we are falling back an hour. YIIIIIIIKES!!!  Hopefully we all adjust quickly but she seems to really be a creature of habit...  Anyone else? Any tips/tricks for this?

  • I would start trying to adjust her now.  Keep her up an extra 15 mins even if she is fussy until she is used to it, then add another 15. and so forth until she is readjusted to the new time.  We started getting ready last week and it is working. *not counting last night where he just didn't wake up from his nap till this morning.

  • I'm with you. She already gets up early enough as it is! I'm just going to put her down when she's tired (which will then be 6:30) and hope she adjusts... eek!

  • It's not that bad.  What I did with my son was try to keep his naps as consistent as possible after the change so his bedtime wasn't affected.  So even if your LO wakes up at 4:30 that morning, keep her up until her usual first naptime and the rest of the day should fall into its regular schedule.
  • We get home at 5:40.  Right now, my LO goes to bed at 7...maybe 7:15.  There is NO WAY I can move his bedtime.  Ugh!

I'm just planning on playing it by ear.  We'll be travelling that weekend, so my guess is his sleep will be a little off as it is.  H and I will just have to divide and conquer if he starts getting up earlier.

Never in a million years did I think that Daylight Savings affected babies before I had one.

  • We've had to switch time zones (3 hours)  a few times.  So with this only being an hour its definitely not a big deal.  She will gradually catch on...it usually took a week for us.  Like someone else said, just try the 15 minute increments and keep her stimulated more in the evening.  Good Luck!
