When would you go to the ER: fever

Landon woke up with a low grade fever this morning. I've been told not to freak over fever and just rotate tylenol and ibuprofen unless it persisted or went up. Well his temperature went down through the day, but I just checked his temp again and it was up to 101.8 after only 1 hour after tylenol. I'm really worried, but trying not to freak. I'll give him ibuprofen in 2 hours, but I'don't know how long to wait with a persistent fever before going in.

I'm fairly liberal with fevers and wouldn't take Claire in unless it reached 103.5 or higher.  I really wouldn't take LO in for a fever that low, but you need to follow your instinct.

I would take DS in if his fever was 103.5, if he had a constant high fever (102+), was not responding to Tylenol or cool baths, or if he had  a seizure (which is caused by your temp spiking really quickly).

I call the pedi on call. If they tell me to go in, I would.
