Sad I can't take dd trick-or-treating

I have to work and can't get off so my sisters, their friends and their kids are going to a fall festival at a local church. I'm glad she's got people to take her & I know it's not a real holiday but I hate missing this stuff. And I just realized I frickin have to work Christmas.

  • Boooo hissss. ?Sigh.

Sam cried for a while tonight after telling me she was sad that I couldn't go to the school parade. ?It royally sucked. ?I totally hear ya.

You at least work later in the day though, right? ?So Santa can still come in the morning, you can do up breakfast, and then go in? ?

  • Eh, ToTing is kind of a PITA.  But Christmas would suck.

Do you at least get extra $ for working a holiday?

    .
  • Who in gods name needs to call a customer care center about their service on Christmas??!!  They can't just close or use a skeleton crew for one day?
  • I normally have to work at 4pm on Sundays and was bummed about having to miss ToTing too this year but luckily at the last minute I found someone willing to work for me until 8pm.

But yeah, given my schedule it looks like I'm stuck working on Christmas and Christmas Eve this year, plus New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. I'm dreading it.

  • I'm sorry!  DH misses a lot of holidays because of his schedule.  For most holidays, we either celebrate the day before or the day after.  We have told DD that Santa (or the Easter Bunny) makes special trips for the kids of firefighters, because he knows that Daddy has to work.
  • I had to work one Christmas at call-center job. Every other numb-nuts would call and say "wow, I can't believe you guys are open!!" Seriously dude- if you a-holes didn't call on Christmas they wouldn't have to forecast for employees to work! I hate people.

  • Mayor, that was always a pet peeve of mine in a call center.  If you didn't think we were open WHY ARE YOU DIALING THE NUMBER!

THIS!!!!!!!!!!! ?retail is the same way. ?

  • Oh, I hate when people say that Mayor! People always find a reason to call about their wireless acct. I do get holiday pay (time and a half) so that makes it worthwhile I suppose. Kori, I work 11-8 ... will have to double check what our center hours will be that day to see if they are sliding it like they did last Thanksgiving (we rotate holidays between centers).

  • Oh, Kori, give Sam big hugs. I know you were upset about that. Did dh take pics?

Cleo, I feel your pain. I'll be working Christmas Eve as well. I think we're closed New Year's Day.

THIS! It would never occur to me to need to call customer service on a major holiday. That royally sucks.

  • I would imagine that there are some actual emergency situations where there needs to be someone there but everyone, I doubt it.  Who's going over their wireless bill on Christmas???  Call it a day and go to a movie and revisit the bill tomorrow people.  That sucks girls.

  • That stinks. I'm on-call for Christmas this year, so I know how you feel.

  • Do you have any TOT events around your area today?  I took the boys to a local outdoor shopping center last night for their first round of TOT.  THey had a ball.  Maybe there is something like that around today that you can do.  That really stinks, but it is good you have family and friends that are taking her-I am sure she'll have fun!  I can't believe people call on holidays either-that is the last thing I am thinking about on the holidays!
  • That sucks, Angela. Amy, the festival they're going to is today and I work today & tomorrow ... getting ready now.
